Are there any recent tea leaves indicating which option Metrolinx is leaning towards?
I'd say that the Sheppard East station plans show potential connections to Line 4 and the Sheppard LRT, while Scarborough Centre doesn't, says which way it's leaning. I'd think that the numbers would have to be fantastic to come south.

With the new Roger's stadium at Downsview opening soon, this line becomes even more important. Forcing a concert-goer from Markham all the way down to Union, before they make the trek back up to Downsview isn't efficient. Not to mention that once Eglinton opens, and everyone finally realizes that LRT's cannot deliver subway-like travel times, people will (hopefully) realize why having a dedicated West-East line north of Bloor is so important.

I think Rogers Stadium will be long gone before Line 4 is extended to Sheppard West.

The what?
Line 7 ... on Sheppard from McCowan towards Malvern and Morningside. The portion of the EELRT proposed project along Sheppard East.

It's shown in Metrolinx's design drawings for Sheppard East station as "Future". Whether or not it ever happens I don't know ... but it's in the plans. The knockout panels can (and do) sit for decades and longer unopened.

Unless they pull a YRT with Purple Enterprise branch. 🤣
I think it's very unlikely for the Sheppard East Extension to have two branches, as that would mean waiting at Sheppard-McCowan or Scarborough Centre for possibly more than 6 minutes for the subway.

Seems to be the first time we are seeing what stations are being considered?

Also - The city/metrolinx should really be talking to Northcrest about protecting for a station in central Downsview. Will be much cheaper to do it with this project than after the community is built up. Hangar district would be a good spot for a future Line 4 West extension going down Wilson.
It would be funny if the Sheppard Line, if headed down to Scarborough Centre, reused the RT ROW (prob not the structure though).

That was always the original plan. And I believe what was in the approved EA.

It does raise the possibility of a future extension - perhaps elevated, down the proposed SRT corridor to Centennial and north to Sheppard, etc.

But I still think they'll go to Sheppard East.

I was going to an old book I had and saw an interesting image:

The 'Recommended Alternative' for Sheppard in 1985 showed it going underground to a station at Brimley and Sheppard then taking a sharp turn south. Then continued underground until near 401 to then go above ground to reach Scarborough Town Center.
