^ a great pic that reminds me of how much green this will bring a very drab part of dt

Anything east of 109th is very bad for this. The Park, LRT, and planned renewals which @IanO shared begin to put a dent in the problem.

103 Ave from 103-109st needs to be heavily modified to accommodate the planting of trees. There is currently nothing that invites you west from the arena. I'm looking forward to the park filling the massive hole with an amenity.

I was walking down 103 Ave from 109 St to 102 St yesterday and I agree it's very drab and depressing.

Suggestions:
- replace the parking lot at 104 St with a basketball court and retain the mural
- replace the parking lot at 106 St with a tree-lined park
- move or shutdown 7Eighty Automotive, Crystal Glass and The Office, and replace them with brewpubs, restaurants and cafes
- revive the Massey Ferguson building into student housing and a possible retail/cafe hub
- turn the old Metro space into a live music venue
- transform the former Champs boxing studio into a fitness club

Honestly, 103rd Ave has been a backwater for almost as long as Wheaties have been a thing. It's in a very low-density area of downtown that was always sparsely developed and completely out of the public eye. Make it a place people want to go to, and more importantly live in, and hopefully the greenery will follow?

There's a reason why it is what it is.

Didn't they just repave that avenue a few summers ago? Definitely a missed opportunity to redo that street because yeah, it looks brutal
I think it was just a quick surface repaving and not a full renewal/rebuild? No sidewalks were touched. Probably due to the wanting to clean it up in relation to ice district, but not being ready for a full rebuild yet in terms of planning/design/budget?

The lack of stuff north of 103ave and west of 104st does make it a lower priority to redo when jasper still looks like trash. But sheesh, get it all up to modern standards please fam.

Lots of concrete, that's seems to be what is considered to make a good park here. It should be called the Edmonton solution. I wonder if our city officials all own shares in the local concrete companies.

IMO paving stones and bricks would be nicer and would fit in nicely with the Warehouse District theme here, but while not crap, we can't have anything too nice looking here even in our supposed show case central park. Also part of the typical Edmonton solution. It will not be cheap, but it will not look fancy.

Does concrete do better with freeze/thaw and equipment clearing snow?

I know paving stones are a lot better for small repairs vs cracked concrete, but maybe the maintenance is still worse for pavers?
