Yeah, I don't think this building was built or designed in contemplation of a park replacing what was to the north for many decades. Perhaps something else will be built there in the future but no shortage of empty lots nearby to build on first. Also, any patio facing the park would be on the north shaded side which would make it less appealing and for a shorter season. A mural on the side or back, or some better landscaping would be nice.

When I was last there it was fairly busy too and I am not surprised. Unlike some places in the core it is easier to get into and out of and they have a wide ranging menu that caters to various tastes.

Having worked at that location many, many, many years ago and knowing the layout of the place, that will be difficult to do. Along that back wall on the inside is a long hallway that connects the kitchen/dishwashing area to some stairs that go down to the basement, which also has a very long hallway and a few rooms used by management and staff. Frankly, they'd be better of tearing down the existing building and starting from scratch

Or how about tearing down the BPs and converting it into an extension of Warehouse Park?
That plus the parking lot next to BPs could potentially be a great extension of the park c/w water fountain.

As for BPs, they still have the ICE District location for patrons to choose from.

Yes, probably a lot easier and cheaper to buy up parking lots to the north rather than existing buildings in use and getting the land facing Jasper Ave would be more expensive.

IMO they should have got at least one of the parking lots on Jasper Ave for better access to the park (maybe the middle one), perhaps rather than the space west of 107 Street.

I don't often frequent BP's (twice in the last decade maybe), but I do notice that the Jasper Ave location is consistently busy. to cavalierly suggest that a going concern be shuttered and consequently dozens of people losing their jobs just for a daydream fountain is a bit much. It's not like all those employees will magically transfer to another restaurant.

I don't think the park has any shortage of connection to Jasper Ave either. 107 street is going to lead right into the park, I don't think it really needs a whole extra lot facing onto Jasper

Unfortunately, it is an Edmonton mentality, quite pervasive here to want to get rid of anything old without regard for the consequences.

If I recall correctly, that BPs used to be an old car dealership / auto shop from pre-1950s which explains the exposed wooden beams in the main dining room and generally odd layout for a restaurant.
