For every homeless person currently laid across the seats and smelling like defecation the city / province properly treats, bathes, and does the laundry for, they will increase a subway car's capacity by 10%.
...a living income, food and a place to live would also likely help here.

I don't think either the TTC or GO are ready for the rush hour crush that's coming later this fall when everyone is back to work 4+ days a week.
Nope they're not.

But it's ok, Doug wants everyone to go back to work everyday because the REITs told him that they're hemmoraging cash and the residential markets has gone off the rails for them, so they have and they need to make up the money somewhere.

Good thing Metrolinx is ramping up GO service, and the TTC is doing the same....oh wait they're not..

From last week.

Will this be done in time for the World Cup? The city is going to be an absolute zoo during the Summer of 2026.

I've been taking GO up to Barrie over the last couple of months and it's just miserable when the platforms are full and the concourses are busy. I go on Sundays and back mid-week around 3pm (before rush hour) and the platforms are so busy I can see why people say it's dangerous and why that one lady died recently.

Union is really missing this connecting concourse that spans across York and Bay and helps diffuse people across the entire station. I can't imagine how it's going to look with World Cup fans staying at downtown hotels needing to get to BMO Field from Union. This expansion needs to get done in time — though I have no little hope given it takes decades to do anything in this city.

It’s too bad Ontario Line/DRL wasn’t started 5-10yrs earlier.

No the entire project (entire concourse and 5 platforms) is slated for completion in 2029, a phased opening is required and will likely happen soon as the existing Union-Scotiabank Arena route needs to be demolished.

I wonder what surprise Metrolinx has in store for us for the 100th anniversary of Union Station.

Maybe it will be a massive delay to the Bremner Concourse! Or a delay to the Union Station Signaling project! Or maybe even an announcement of the full cancellation of the electrification of the GO network! So many possibilities for Metrolinx to screw over riders, i'm so excited to find out what the grand plans are.

Do they ever actually plan to finish work in the Great Hall? The floor looks unchanged; I thought they were replacing parts with new marble.
The City manager of Union has said they are actively working on the Great Hall lighting and that the remaining floor repairs are next. I THINK they are hoping for lighting in late 2025 but this may be wishful thinking! The art work in the passageway below (Flux) is also supposed to be finally done this fall - that contract was awarded in 2013 but the Belgian artists have been kinda slow and the electronics involved had to be updated as standards changed.
