That's great news, sounds like sports will continue to fill many dates at our arena!

I also have to say that I'm excited about how excited all these industry people are.

It looks like the scoreboard might be upgraded after all.... https://hamiltoncitymagazine.ca/matty-matheson-opening-a-restaurant-in-hamilton-arena/

"When asked directly whether the arena would be a sporting venue, Feldman said Hamilton is a big and passionate sports town and that the ice plant and scoreboard will be upgraded. He said more news on that front will come."
I have recently seen a pretty good indication that the scoreboard is getting touched. It came as a shock to me as well.

I hope OVG doesn't do the cheap "touching up" they did to the Baltimore arena upgrade. The Baltimore project originally kept the same old scoreboard but updated quality of the screen and replaced the scoreclock with LED lights.

I just took a look and it looks like they later upgraded it to a full led screen;.

I hope OVG gets us at least a semi-modern all led screen scoreboard.

I hope the Hamilton thing is more than a touch-up, but wouldn't be surprised if it is only that. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

Where do you see evidence that there was a further upgrade to the Baltimore scoreboard? I see only the very basic one (which is bad but still much better than the one Hamilton has had for many years) in image searches.

A new scoreboard, in the grand scheme of things, is not a big spend. As part of the OVG’s first round of Canada Life Place upgrades in London, the new scoreboard (NHL quality) and other digital signage upgrades were apparently only a $1.8M investment.

If I had to guess, a new scoreboard in Hamilton will more or less resemble what has been done here.

Agreed that basic setups are not huge huge costs, but they are still costs. And even a basic scoreboard would be light years above what the arena had to this point. Just hoping for something nice.

Even London's previous video board was way better than what Hamilton had. Maybe we will get that! (Kidding).

Mobile crane on site for lifting of the some equipment and into the top roof of Hamilton Arena from today.

Apparently the arena has been so successful at booking big events that it isn't going to bother pursuing the Brier (curling),
which would have a long setup time and require the arena for 19 days: ...
I wouldn't necessairly come to that conclusion. The Brier is probably a low bang-for-your buck event and they probably don't want to forego the possibility of much larger-dollar events.
It's too early to tell if the newly renovated arena is going to be a huge success that will be busy with many events. Maybe wait to see if/when they announce a corporate sponsor name, potential sports tenants, more than one or two concerts, etc.
If it's re-opening in December, in the middle of the season for sports that play through the winter, it may take until Sept 2026 for potential tenant(s) to move in.

Too early, yes. But turning down the Brier is a good sign of bookings success.

I don't even think they necessarily really want sports tenants, as they just make it tougher to schedule the big-ticket/revenue events like concerts. I think they are largely just placating the city by bringing some teams in.

Tangentially-related, Hamilton Stadium has been without a corporate name sponsor for this year. Tim Horton's rights ended in 2024 and haven't been replaced.

I didn't know that. The soccer team has already had some games at "Hamilton Stadium". With a lot of this type of corporate sponsorship of festivals. etc., disappearing, it probably isn't good news for "Hamilton Arena".

And the usual practice now seems to be that concert tickets are sold several months ahead of time, so if a lot of them are booked for the Arena, we should be starting to hear about more of them now beyond the one that has been announced.

I think the arena will get a sponsor. I'm guessing they want that reveal to be closer to the re-open.
I think there'd be more interest in sponsorship for the arena than the stadium since the arena will be used A LOT more - which gives the name MUCH more exposure.
