Looks like December 5 is the day the magic happens

I wouldn't necessairly come to that conclusion. The Brier is probably a low bang-for-your buck event and they probably don't want to forego the possibility of much larger-dollar events.

Correct. Curling events have gone from large venues to smaller venues in the last decade or two. They can’t really consistently fill 10K+ arenas anymore.

I think it bodes poorly for the potential tenants at this arena if they’re being this successful with concert booking. NLL teams don’t exactly draw massive crowds either.

It's not going to be so insanely busy with big concerts that it can't be used for smaller-tier events like lacrosse games. The Rock only play nine home games per season, and their games are a decent step up in attendance from OHL games (for example). I am sure that the arena will be able to accommodate that pretty easily, although I don't know if booking their usual Saturdays nights will be tougher.

You might be right, but I'd think they would need at least say 3-4 major concerts going on drawing minimum 10k to justify turning it down. That's about 1 concert every 5 days over that span.

How many major tours are going on in late February?

As an aside, I actually Googleed to find out when the Brier is, and one of the first web pages is the bid application which is kinda hilarious.

The benefits of hosting are listed as: 66+ hours of national TV exposure. 10% of ticket sales retained by host city and $15M of economic impact.

I certainly hope whatever is intended instead will be worth at least they much in local impact.

If not, I question the partnership between the city and OVG. Is the facility being run for mutual benefit or only OVG?
