Two key things that need to happen to really make this...actually, 3 key things beyond the anticipated developments to really make this a district:

1. Relocate/ redevelop Salvation Army.

2. SJAM property needs to be acquired and turned into something as cool as tbr arena, mixed use development of a new convention centre, hotel, casino office would be ideal.

Yale Properties needs to invest a ton of money into renovating Jackson Square and getting better tenants in there.

Finding a good use for the City Centre would also be great.

There has to be some kind of planning around the Salvation Army.

There has not been any news shared on the arena front in a while now. Concert tours are starting to book into late fall/December.

Probably in order of priority as well, with #1 being by far the most critical to this project's success. To put it mildly, this area is currently not a family friendly zone.

I'm not convinced refurbishing the arena will somehow result in them getting many more concerts than they did before. With all the existing venues in Toronto, Fallsview and the other casinos, there's not exactly a void that needs to be filled.

I have to believe that OVG didn't invest all this money and time to renovate the arena for the main purpose of hosting many events/concerts without being confident that there's a void that exists and can be filled.

Largest privately-funded arena build in this country's history. I'm sure they know what they're doing and what their market is.

The only indoor buildings that are the same size or larger than "Hamilton Arena" are Scotiabank Arena, which is maybe a few percent higher in capacity, and the SkyDome / Rogers Centre. In the winter, there are tons of arena-sized shows touring -- too many for just Scotiabank to handle, but not that many stadium-sized shows. This is feeling good.

Seconded, having spent too much time around here…

Shouldn’t this be a pretty minor issue though? Relocating, that is. Could have sworn there was movement on this file but maybe I’m misremembering.

I left the city centre out because it's supposed to be redeveloped into 3 residential towers, but I agree it's a big part of the success of the area.

You need a mix of venues as there exists different size shows. The capacity needs very from 100, 300, 500, 1000, 3000, 5000, 10000, 18000, 50000 seats. Copps is one of two in the 18000 range.

More importantly, this project is run by the top arena and entertainment management company, OVG and Live Nation. The concerts will come.

Good article in The Spec today. https://www.thespec.com/publication...cle_daf1b913-cf13-5788-87bc-985a44d7f313.html

The descriptions and photos give a better idea of the changes to entrances and circulation. They also say the new name is coming in a few months, and some artists have been booked.

Did we ever find out if it's confirmed the old crappy 20 some odd year old video board is staying?

Also something new, I see the media gondola is still up. Along with the video board, I was looking forward to that being removed/replaced, or at the very least, being repainted something other then orange.

I think the initial initial intention a few years back was to set up a new scoreboard, but there has been nothing mentioned about a new scoreboard since the current plans were launched.

Oak View is patterning much of this on what they did with Baltimore (I.e. a $250 million-plus music-first reno) and they kept the very crappy (but not quite as crappy as Hamilton's) scoreboard there.

I also read a Scott Radley article that mentioned something about the scoreboard being wrapped at some point.

My best guess is that they are keeping the old one, which would be a big bummer.

The media gondola is notorious for its difficult access. You need to take a long stroll on the catwalk under the ceiling to get there and I assume that that will also stay as is.
