They planted trees and grass last fall, they look fairly healthy and asphalted most (but not all) the walkways. Since early this year they appear to have abandoned it again as they appear to have done no maintenance and the damned 'temporary park' is still not open. If it was worthwhile paying to establish a temporary park, it would seem a no brainer to actually open it but what do I know?
On the city's page, they say the opening of this sad and sorry "temporary park" will open Summer 2025. So it can be anywhere from now till September technically.

Maybe it’s been handed over - Now it’s a city problem/delay?
I’m not sure what the missing surfaces are supposed to be. Maybe these were negotiated out of scope/credit on turnover?

I have zero faith that this park will be rebuilt for idk... 30 years? This is what we're getting for the foreseeable future. Also since it has no dog relief area, all the grass will be dead within 6 months due to dogs peeing everywhere (which is what has happened to basically every other recent park in downtown)

Like they had an issue with dogs peeing on the grass at the Alexander Street parkette that was just rebuilt, so the city closed it off, redid the turf, and within 2 weeks of opening it again, all the grass near the front of the park is dead and yellow because it's just a dog toilet since they didn't include a dedicated relief area.

Parks simply doesn't learn, doesn't care, and it sucks.

Adding a relief area won’t stop dogs from using the grass... Just like drivers, signage or what's close by doesn't matter – if there's space, they'll take it (even if it's on a sidewalk or bike lane).

I have seen two people and two dogs “using” it over the last week. There must be a gap in the NW corner.

A few pics from today, April 22nd, 2025 (then a comment or three....)

Also, White Birch varietals typically like soil mesic (medium moisture) to slightly moist. Putting them up on constructed mounds that look a bit compacted.............ummm....ok.

As I was by here, today, July 23rd, 2025, time to revisit this past post:

The same trees today:

Yup, that's $2,000 down the toilet......err......well.....I'm afraid it's a bit more......that 's just for the 3 Birch here...............Doesn't include the sod....or

Yeah, there's more dead trees, not sure it's all Birch, but mostly.....about 1/3 of all the trees on the site.......add it to the grass failure........Pfft start at $20,000, just to get back the 1/2 assed idea they started with.....

Two points for spotting what caught my attention here:

Hint, it's not the mechanical equipment......well.....sorta.

This is the obvious low point of the site......reeds (marsh plants) are growing.....this is the one spot you might want to plant White Birch, instead, we get mech, that will not appreciate being in the middle of a marsh, sigh

Correct me if I’m wrong, the city hasn’t assumed this property yet. Hopefully this is remedied at the expense of the current owners. Still disappointing nonetheless, just a longer wait for fleshed out trees here.

I believe that is correct.

Whether Menkes eat the cost.....or the City does......someone should answer for a design choice that never made any sense. Birch in those conditions were always likely to fail.

Really even as an interim design, it makes no sense.
