We’re getting turtles!
We’re getting turtles!
There are some scattered around but I bet that when Parks takes over they will all be moved together so they can empty them easier! Are all the trash bins in the playground? Will they be needed elsewhere?
The Don is still not clean enough for safe swimming, the City continues to clean it up but it will be a while before I would venture into it myself!Do you guys think that these channels/canals/rivers will ever be swimmable? In Copenhagen they have things like waterslides and floating docks on canals right in the centre of the city. They are really busy in the summer months. What would it take logistically for this to happen?

There's a major sewer project under way right now so that not as much raw sewage gets poured into the Don every time it rains heavily. But even when that project is done, I think there's still a lot of work to be done upstream...

How Toronto’s Don River, once declared dead, is roaring back to life
Once it was so polluted it caught fire several times - and was declared dead in 1969, but Toronto’s Don river is now roaring back to life Can the Don River be resurrected ?www.theguardian.com
The more things I learn about my city from a paper based out of London, UK...There's a major sewer project under way right now so that not as much raw sewage gets poured into the Don every time it rains heavily. Here is the UT thread on the Coxwell Bypass Tunnel.Yep. They have a $3 billion budget for water projects across the city. The Coxwell Bypass Tunnel and the Inner Harbour West Tunnel, which will directly affect the Don River and the water quality around Ookwemin Minising, is well on it's way. But there are a lot more projects on the go across the city as well. There are huge storage tanks being built to store stormwater (until it can be treated) instead of allowing it to flow out into the lake.
Google "Don River Central Waterfront stormwater management projects" and you'll find a City of Toronto youtube video on it all.
