Curious! I lived for a couple of years in ‘The Hemingway’ (in the late ‘90’s), a delightful low-rise co-op on the edge of the ravine just north of St Clair on Bathurst. It was full of ‘eclectic’ folks and we’d have floor parties almost monthly. Loved it. One rumour floating around was that one could find hidden bottles of his hooch behind certain walls in his unit where he lived in the 1920’s when he worked for The Star. Wasn’t able to verify :). Sorry, a bit off topic.

Knew a librarian couple who live (lived?) there and that I used to work with. One of them told me he and his partner had something like five-thousand, fully-catalogued volumes in their collection. Can't speak to the booze though, but I suspect he did that so he could bring back booze during Prohibition.

Are there permanent washroom anywhere in the park? Please tell me there isn't an expectation to bother the local restaurant. I only saw porta potties.
There will be permanent washrooms in the old firehall building, once its renovations are complete.

I believe another building with washrooms and food options is planned for Promontory Park, which is still under construction and not open yet.

Didn't they move the old fire hall into the park so that it will open with programming? Presumably it will have washrooms.

As per the City of Toronto Parks tradition, the public bathroom will only be open for 17 (non-consecutive) minutes each day between May 32nd and August 5th. Check the city app, which will redirect you to a website (fingers crossed sponsored by Tangerine) for availability. Note that the city reserves the right to close for weeks on end for “repairs” during the summer season without anyone on site or estimating completion.

They had a lot of people out today picking weeds and doing upkeep.

This is the deluxe landscape maintenance package............but it only goes until year end.

As of 2026, the intent is that the TRCA will take over landscape maintenance.

To what standard you ask?

To my understanding, they have not been told, and have not been told how much money the City will provide for upkeep.

Alright, eeew, are they really putting in two roads and ruining the vibes with a complex to the south? Way to turn an oasis into a parkette for condo dwelling dog owners

That's the Polson Quay District and the South River District. There is an old document from 2015 about the vision of the port lands where they talked about those two with some examples. I'm not sure if the plans have changed (much). I guess these are not part of Ookwemin Minising so it's off-topic. Apologies in advance.

"South River: A scenic location for media and creative uses with the new mouth of the Don to the north, the Don Greenway to the east, and the Ship Channel to the south. Housed in multi-storeyed buildings with active uses at street level, over time the area will transition to be a distinct mixed-use community that ensures the continued viability of the Lafarge Polson Street terminal and port operations to the south."

Forgot about that- buuut arguably, Biidaasige Park straddles the river, and seeing that we haven’t moved all those posts into a new thread for the park- I think it’s allowed.

I think it’s gonna be wild when we put up a gazillion condos bordering the new park, then have everyone complain about the coyotes attacking their dogs, or that leash laws aren’t being enforced.

I also do wonder if the people who live on the south side will drive north on Cherry, to get off the island, or get in the habit of taking Unwin to Leslie. I’ve kinda been surprised with the day time traffic on Cherry this last week, mixed in with industrial. And that’s without an event at Rebel/Cabana
