Well, I hope the kids aren't too whiny about walking, but once you've tackled the long block from Saulter to the Don Roadway, you're at the new part of the river. Either cross the river on the colourful bridge and follow the riverside trail south and west, or don't cross, and just take the first trail south and west along the river from there. There's a pedestrian bridge over the river about 85% of the way to Cherry where you can cross to the other side and make your return that way, or turn around before that if the kids' timers are running low.

We actually did this same trip in the fall, and nobody minded the walk. We stopped on the bridge to look at stuff on the river banks, so that kind of split up the walk. But the TTC majorly failed us on the way back, and we waited for 30 minutes for a bus, after making the trek across the bridge.

What businesses on Villiers are still in operation?

The Keating Channel Pub & Grill is still opened, as I eat there often.

There was also a Toromont business there for the longest time and a few 1 storey buildings that didn't have signs but appeared to be still be occupied last summer. Whenever this crappy weather lets up, I'll take another walk down Villiers.

Took a walk down Villiers Street. I guess I misremebered and Toromont has been gone for awhile. It looks like just a few businesses are left...

And facing west...

I also spotted a Coyote in the grassy hills around the parking lot, behind the fence. It's too skittish to get a closer shot...

You when a coyote back end is facing 6 o'clock while the head end is scanning the horizon, you know it's business time... >.<

Finally found the pictures of the old turkey vulture I ran into years back on Commissioners. Not that we need the avian competition in the new space- but what kind of activity would have pulled a guy like this to the area? I’ve never seen them in these parts again.

Last I saw of him, he’d spotted some prey midair and went to retrieve it with a rather frightening wing span.

They are relatively common in Toronto, and are present in the Lakeshore/Spit area, the Bluffs, and on the Islands. It's most common to see them soaring on thermals, or spot them on high perches (cliffs, the tops of utility poles)

We're taking the TTC, which refuses to run the 72 bus past the park on weekdays, so we'll be getting off at Commissioner's and Saulter. Which is pretty far from the actual mouth of the river.
I think the 72 now terminates @ Commissioners & Saulter 7-days a week all year now. Though I too would find it useful if it looped at Munition Street, the 114 is quite regular and a good way to go further west.
