Note of interest: Pier D3 for the West Don Crossing has done it's final lift and will be getting it's pier table next.

I'm surprised to see construction of the elevated track at Thorncliffe is beginning soon. I wish they would start building the track at the north end of the line too, so they can get the most disruptive work in the area out of the way.

The next streetcar generation should be double-ended. Then we can put in streetcar crossover tracks at East Harbour Station, for streetcar short-turns in the future.
It should. But not sure how that relates to the Ontario Line thread.

Let's revisit the topic in the appropriate thread closer to the streetcar fleet's end of life in 15 years. <3

Like when they put in a streetcar platform UNDER the roadway for the Prince Edward Viaduct in 1918, so Bloor Street East could cross over the Don Valley to Broadview. Future preparation. Became useful by the 1960's, forty years later.

Similarly, they built a streetcar platform under Queen Station in the 1950s, and while it was never used for that purpose, it did allow them to put a pedestrian platform-to-platform connection under the tracks, which might have been too costly if there wasn't already a piece of tunnel there.

Also, when Kennedy Station was built, a platform for streetcars was built as a second storey, and was not used for that, but it was used for the Scarborough RT instead. A similar thinking-ahead platform was built at Kipling Station, never used.

I don't know why people complain about posts going off topic if they are kept short. Each reply thus far, including mine I think, has been a legitimate footnote or reply to a question from a preceding post.

anyone know the reason why theres no news on demolition regarding the 25 homes they were to acquire along that stretch of pape?

the homes were said to be vacated by november 2025, and with the rest of the block at pape and sammon thats said to start going as soon as late april, im surprised to see nothing on demolishing that row of houses yet, except for one of the detached garages, which is what the text is about in the picture below

its very possible that it will happen soon and they haven't made anything public yet, but maybe there's something i missed that could be shared

thanks

The homes are not going to be demolished, unless something happens during the tunnel boring that weakens their structural integrity, since it's happening relatively close to the surface directly below those homes.

The block at Pape and Sammon is being demolished for constructing an auxiliary building. There is no such plan for the houses on Pape south of Riverdale.

thanks for the clarification. i was quick to assume that the acquisition was permanent, and it stuck that way ever since i read the article
