Oh, you were on the island. These gotta go to the other thread now![]()
I imagine what feels like MORE of an island is parts of Liberty Village where you’re hemmed in by railways and expressways. Maybe that’ll change when there’s people living here, or trying to get to stuff ON the island, and you realize how limited egress is.Heheh. You know what else is funny? I know it's technically an island as you couldn't get to it without going over a bridge in every direction, but it hardly feels like an island. I feel like I'm just driving over some small rivers, I don't for a moment ever think, "WOW I'M ON AN ISLAND!"
mark my words, in 10yrs when people are living there, they’re going to be demanding the red streetcar bridge get opened up to cars.
From your photo, it seems they are removing the covering etc from the east side of the Bascule Bridge. Just in time for the spring boat traffic. It is hard to see, did they actually repair and repaint that side??Building something between yellow bridge and bascule. View attachment 639989
Cleaning giant graffiti on yellow bridge, taken from north of yellow bridge so NOT on the island.

View from Polson -off the island- they fenced the boardwalk off again. Does anyone know if that’s in expectation of lake levels?

I couldn’t really see much on that side. But maybe they moved as quick here as they did with the craneFrom your photo, it seems they are removing the covering etc from the east side of the Bascule Bridge. Excellent work @mburrrrr I assume they will (as planned) complete the left side this spring before re-opening the bridge and do the right-hand side next winter after the Ship Channel is closed for the winter. Presumably they can work on the southern (fixed) sections of the steelwork any time so may do it over the summer. We shall see!
Just got back from Lyon, France. Wonderful community in the Confluence District that has been built in the last decade that would provide great inspiration for the Lower Don Lands / Port Lands area.
