Ha! I was unsure what this was for a minute because of the perspective. Love it! Got to get my own drone!
As above, Ports Toronto say the bridge will operate in summers. I suspect this means they will need to remove all the scaffolding as it would seem unlikely the bridge can be raised with it there but I guess we will see.Can the bridge still raise and lower with that thing there? Or will it not be raising for the next 2-3 years???
Update on City Road Restrictions site:As they say they will open the bridge to ships again once the ice melts and plan to do work on it only in winters, I assume the scaffolding will be removed in the summer. I doubt bridge would rise with it in place.

"Phase 1 – Substantial completion in March 2024.
Phase 2 – To commence in late 2024.
- Rehabilitation of the bridge north and south roadway approach spans.
The majority of work related to this phase of the project is limited to the winter months when the Ship Channel Bridge lift is not operational. It is expected that the overall project will be completed in 2027.
- Restoration of the Bascule lift bridge structure.
- Replacement of end of life mechanical and electrical lift systems.
During this project , PortsToronto and the City of Toronto will ensure the continued safe transportation of cargo and goods across the Ship Channel Lift Bridge while maintaining marine, vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the various rights of way serviced by the bridge."
Just saw that the Toronto Animation Art Festival International will no longer be held at George Brown on the waterfront. It’s moved up to the Marriot on Yonge. So again, maybe we can get some community event space further east- maybe a hotel? Was perusing insta when I came across notice about a cool little crafts type show… which naturally… has to be way the hell out in the west end. Because of course it is.
I know I’d seen some random sketches with covered market space/picnic area here, but that’s waaay early on and nothing indicates it’s still on the table.
So what can we do about that? Still time here?
West end always gets the sticker and pin shows, the stationary shows, the lgbtq stuff. Closest we get is Stackd. What are we doing wrong here?
We’ve got the community centre near Sugar Wharf. The space over in Regent Park (where I initially attended an event for this project), the community centre to come in Aqualuna. The fermenting cellar used to host Leslieville Flea but that space is gone now. North St Lawrence market will at least have Sunday available. Brickworks is great if it’s good weather or you can drive and have the time.
It feels like west end has plenty of space for small scale arts programming. Artscape seems to do a great job with Wychwood barns- so why does the Daniels Centre on Jarvis seem so dead?
My point, can we pull off a Wychwood Barns setup in the port lands? (Not the recovered building, that would have to be new) - but maybe some election money can go towards a community arts space in the style of…

Can you imagine? Polson Iron Works Centre
The Ookwemin Minising thread will be for things on that island, this thread will be for things not on that island but still in the Lower Don Lands area (as you say, the area between the yellow bridge and the bascule bridge). Particular projects will get their own threads too, just like projects in any other part of the city. I imagine that we will create a database file and dedicated thread for the pedestrian bridge soon enough!So- exactly what parts of this project will remain IN this thread once they get going? Will the pedestrian bridge get its own thread soon? (Thats what the barges are starting right?). Does the stretch between the yellow bridge and bascule count as a Lower Don, while anything on the island count as the island?

I appreciate that it's extra effort for members at times when we split threads. Large amorphous areas like the Lower Don Lands / Port Lands are initially easy to cover in one way, but as more named features get added it gradually gets more complicated in that original thread. Anyway, I'm prepared for more posts where things are generally lumped together, but whatever can be done to minimize that, so much the better!Huh. Okay I think I follow all that.
Honestly it's just been really nice that we've had one thread for everything up until this point, but I guess I understand why it needs to be split up as things continue to grow.
I'll try to remember to put the right photos in the right spot.
You may need to seek a legal opinion on that one.But what if I’m off the island, shooting the island BUT the post is not ABOUT the island but rather the view from off-island? And vice versa
