Great images! I just wanted to clarify that the lrt median on the south side of Commissioners is to get a different treatment than the one on Cherry as it will be more of a promenade with several rows of trees.

Not surprised and hope the trees are on both side of the ROW. that will not interfere with the overhead when time cones to build the ROW as well 20 years after they are planted.

A thread has been split off specifically for Ookwemin Minising now, or Villiers Island for the incorrigibles, of about 200 posts from this thread, starting from when the name was announced in November.

Mayor Chow couldn’t remember or pronounce the name in the news conference this morning.

Edit. Wrong thread already.

I am one of the incorrigibles. That is a pretty difficult name, I can't spell it most of the time, or remember how it is supposed to be pronounced :(

I wish it is just Ookwemin Island or something, be 50% easier.

Taken 1 Feb. Pedestrian lighting has gone up along the south side of Commissioner’s. Still curious to see how the section between this and the street are treated.

And a bit of a question/proposal about the suitability of the frozen river for winter activity specifically skating. It is well known that there is a shortage of rinks for hockey teams so perhaps 5-6 temporary rinks along the Estuary? Yes, no, maybe?🤔 I also see the potential for a program like Winnipeg has on the Red River during the winter with huts /pavilions.

Food for thought!

Btw I am leading a free walk of the Portlands tomorrow at 10 am for anyone interested! Meet at Dark Horse Café in Canary. ~1.5 hours with a washroom/warmup break.

Get used to this view until 2027 at the earliest.

As they say they will open the bridge to ships again once the ice melts and plan to do work on it only in winters, I assume the scaffolding will be removed in the summer. I doubt bridge would rise with it in place.

"
"Phase 1 – Substantial completion in March 2024.

  1. Rehabilitation of the bridge north and south roadway approach spans.
Phase 2 – To commence in late 2024.

  1. Restoration of the Bascule lift bridge structure.
  2. Replacement of end of life mechanical and electrical lift systems.
The majority of work related to this phase of the project is limited to the winter months when the Ship Channel Bridge lift is not operational. It is expected that the overall project will be completed in 2027.

During this project , PortsToronto and the City of Toronto will ensure the continued safe transportation of cargo and goods across the Ship Channel Lift Bridge while maintaining marine, vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the various rights of way serviced by the bridge."
