I have seen a lot of chatter about FIFA pulling out of US venues for 2026 so assuming that there would be an increase in games in Canada/Mexico. So is it possible to increase the number of matches at BMO or would additional facilities be needed? Could Rogers Event Centre be used? Ivor Wynne in Hamilton? Calgary?
Good joke.
Fifa runs their events in slave state dictatorships like quatar and russia why would they care about america?

^As I said chatter based on no news but an issue seems to be players/officials not being able to get entry visas and/or not wanting to go for personal reasons.

If the U.S. denied entry Visas to any players they likely wouldn't be awarded another FIFA event.

Curious where you are seeing this chatter? You have a link?

I follow the sport pretty closely and haven't seen anything.

Ivory Wynne has been torn down by the way

Don’t want to get off topic as I was only curious if Canada has the capacity to pivot quickly but it was on a sports site that highlighted the specific issues for Mexican elected officials being denied visas. They went on to say that if the issues persist much longer FIFA will quickly adjust as the US market is a fraction of the rest of the world and sponsors will be firmly on their existing markets side.

Unlikely that anything will change, one year from the World Cup, but in some hypothetical scenario were the US to be dropped, most games would go to Mexico who has the venues and experience to host soccer matches, including those of World Cup calibre.

Rogers Stadium being built at Downsview could not host games. It doesn't have the infrastructure — not even a pitch. It's being built for concerts. I could see BMO Field in Toronto and BC Place in Vancouver taking on extra games. From 13 of the games out of 104 to maybe 20 or 25 would be pushing it. Other cities in Canada haven't had time to prepare nor the budget to host a World Cup on a whim.

The reality is that FIFA isn't going to pull out of the US, short of a civil war breaking out there. They'll deal with whatever tantrums Trump pulls and work around him.

I suppose this includes if the US decides on a whim to block certain countries entry into their country and forcing FIFA to change the schedule so that those team's matches have to be played in Mexico or Canada.

TBH I'm cringing at the thought of BMO field hosting world cup games. It's OK for our MLS purposes but it's no where near world class. Going to be embarrassing

It's definitely the most pedestrian of the North American stadiums. Still, if I were a European or South American travelling to the World Cup, I'd rather my team play in Toronto than Kansas City. While I've never attended a World Cup, I imagine the fan experience goes beyond the stadium, and includes the events around the facility, as well as the local pubs and restaurants.

And we won't detain you upon entry.

Toronto's stadium issues, which I believe are mostly overblown anyway, are made up for by the immediate transit and downtown surroundings which makes it far better on accessibility than most of the US stadiums. Contrast getting to BMO to getting to Foxborough and the difference is stark, and most travelling fans are coming from countries with stadiums connected and embedded in their urban areas.

I second this. (Hi everyone, this is my first comment ever). I am Colombian, living in Toronto fro a couple of years now and all my family is planning to come to the world cup. My best friend who lives in North Carolina is comming to Toronto to the World Cup too. I know we all like to diminish our city and its urbanisms, infrastructure and transit but please bear in mind that outside of Canada, Toronto is seen as a world class city!. Heck, I even showed my dad BMO field and he tought it was a very nice stadium (Even tho, I can say the stadium at my hometown may be a bit better for Football). IT may not be the best Stadium but Toronto definitely has its charm as a world cup destination.
