I believe their only option is to tunnel first because it's likely too late to switch to excavating first and because I don't think you can excavate while you tunnel the same station.

I know that the plan for the Ontario line stations where they are excavating first is to push the TBM through using some other system. Therefore I'm making an assumption that it isn't possible for a TBM to transit through an excavation by using it's normal movement process, but that's a question for a tunneling engineer.
You are incorrect in your assumption.

i really wish this extension was given more priority and funding :// scarbs has great potential to connect with york and durham region

i keep biking past the construction every couple days to check if progress is going good

What do you mean by more priority?

Some posts on TBM Station Transits.

That's how it's done. The question is, is the Scarborough TBM designed for this to be done.

I very much doubt they'd change the approach at this stage.

I passed by the site briefly today and I noticed that loading trucks with soil seemed normal, but the wheels on the conveyer system weren’t turning and from my angle I couldn’t see the dirt spilling out anymore like I used to 😩

Prior to Amalgamation, Scarborough had little to no debt and was set to be a thriving part of the GTA but decades have passed and we are now the most neglected Borough of Toronto. more funding towards this subway much like whats happening with the Gardener would make the project take less time and come into Consumer hands quicker. i just wanna see my Scarbs become the best version of itself so more people can experience the best food and parks that we have to offer :)

Not sure how more money will solve that problem cause the issue is getting the tbm to do it's thing. No amount of money is going to make that move any faster.

I believe the conveyor system is only active while the machine is advancing and dirt is being removed from the excavation chamber of the TBM. The machine may have been paused for ring building or maintenance when you passed by.

That very well may be true.
Is there a way of performing maintenance without having to dig an access shaft from the surface?

I also noticed today that the excavators were no longer operating and hauling dirt, which indicates a stoppage of digging. However, tunnel liners were still being lowered into the pit.

All fun and games until Metrolinx starts positioning SAM installations around its job sites
It would be easier just to set up drone jamming defences and use signal detection to send workers to go find the operator 😱

Stay safe people!
