Took another look today at the Sheppard and McCowan launch shaft.

Same as last week, there was a steady stream of trucks hauling away excavated material.

The conveyor system was filling the storage bins

The crane was busy lifting items into the pit.

I'm getting a Cold War U-2 pilot vibe....

Could this jet routing be related to making the soil more favourable for the TBM to dig? https://assets.metrolinx.com/image/...SE_Jet_Grouting_Notice_Brimorton_May_2025.pdf

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that MX has to constantly prep the ground for the TBM to bore through, shouldn't the soil already been factored in to choosing the cutting face?

Come to think of it, if they are still working on this til September, then the TBM probably isn’t expected to reach Brimorton until then.

on that note has the TBM tracker been restarted? it's been ages since we saw an update

I tried looking all over the SSE MX website and still can't find it.
Maybe they don't want to have it because they will always be stopping and starting it.

ML’s public face could be better, but it could be worse

Bell Customers: There was no internet service this morning from Ontario to the Maritimes
Bell: We have identified the problem, it was a flawed software upgrade, we have taken steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We apologise for letting you down.

Metrolinx customers: There was no internet service this morning
Metrolinx: It’s working now. What’s the problem?
Metrolinx customers: but what about this morning?
Metrolinx: We are committed to bringing you a glorious internet experience at some point in the future, date to be confirmed
Metrolinx customers: But what about today when we had no internet service all morning?
Metrolinx: We aren’t aware of that. The Toronto Star never mentioned it, so it can’t have happened. We have removed all information about internet outages from our web site.

Maple Leafs fans: We have had no internet since 1967
MLSE: We have fired some more people. We are committed to bringing you a glorious internet experience through our new 12-year rebuilding plan. Would you like to buy a jersey ?

- Paul

PS - pretty bad when I’m using the cable company as doing better PR than ML

I don't remember any more. A single storage track would be simplest.

Looking at the Environmental Project Report amendment from 2020, from the (confusing) figures, it looks like a single track. But the text uses the plural "pocket tracks". I recall though that they were still trying to finalize this in 2021, including making sure there was space on the north side for the (now cancelled) Eglinton East tunnel.
At least in the original pre-COVID plans every second train was going to turn at Kennedy in certain parts of the day. So this structure would allow trains to turn off the mainline without using the existing crossover and fouling the mainline and the platforms at Kennedy. AFAIK this was because the TTC does not have enough T1s to operate the ~140 second pre-COVID peak headway over the entire extension.

With the post-COVID service cuts on the subway, and the new trains for the BD likely being in service when it opens who knows if the line will actually operate this way.

They just need to hire a few more VPs for their comms department.
They need to get out from under the thumb of the Premier's Office… but will they be able to? Not for the foreseeable future.

Do we have any indication that trucks are still hauling away spoils from the launch site? According to the community notices the prep work around triton road should have ended by now, so it is possible that the TBM is advancing south again......

I live basically across the road and it's busy today, and just the last couple weeks in general.
Frankly, how busy it is right now just makes me realize how thoroughly quiet it was for the last year or more.

There is a constant din of idling trucks in the distance...
