Downtown and West End Vancouver also largely function as a resort. But if you would like to benchmark our downtown against Calgary, Hamilton, Ottawa or Winnipeg I will absolutely listen to you.
Yes a resort and those many of those high rises are a vertical gated community for wealth expats and retirees. Vancouver has very hard physical constraints (mountains and water) that lead to much more density than elsewhere and a climate unlike most other places in Canada, but other than a very long list of all those differences, yeah we could be similar.

The first major development has gone up downtown spurred by the creation of Warehouse Park.
Vote for people who want to support rehab facilities AND hefty mandatory minimums for drug dealing and it might not be a problem.I like the park idea but I can't help but wonder if it'll become a hangout for homeless and drug deals ?
I'm not going to vote for people who continously put these facilities on the northeast side of the city.
New builds like this and public amenities like warehouse park will contribute toward increased economic activity and foot traffic in this area. That will serve to deter shady activity in this area and will help legitimate businesses to thrive. Empty parking lots on the other hand...I like the park idea but I can't help but wonder if it'll become a hangout for homeless and drug deals ?
