I'm a bit surprised that Covid is still regularly being thrown around as a factor in closures. We're going on 3 years since the last lockdown...
will see what happens when "Insert Name Here" Arena opens up at the end of 2025> I am sure there will be a decent line up of live nights after spending $28)MM+ on the facility. Given the proximity to the Arena as well as the literally hundreds of new condos being completed in the next 18 months a stones throw away from the front door of the facility, I would think new owners would light up the space with a new venue.

Harbour Sixty is re-opening in March with a new 25-year lease. The real question is will the parking lot around the Harbour Commission be developed by that point? (Bets on the table)

I'm not surprised at all. The effects of travel restrictions and quarantines/lockdowns. So many restaurants & other businesses never fully recovered. i couldn't get a coffee at my fave cozy cafe, but Starbucks at the grocery store was allowed to open. 🤷‍♂️

The lockdowns didn't make a lot of sense. Toronto was lockdown but you could drive to a nearby city go out for dinner and get a haircut, go shopping...etc No wonder we lost so many businesses.

Can rising costs really be blamed on COVID?

But I know I'm not the only one who lives with an immunocompromised or otherwise vulnerable person and no longer eats indoors in restaurants, so that might be a factor. I don't like it, but on the other hand, we haven't caught anything in more than three years.

The company will enter the Ottawa market for the first time while adding two strategic Toronto locations at Yonge & Eglinton and the Canary District. A new South Shore location in Montreal will further enhance the brand’s presence in its home market, where it has successfully operated since 2004.

“Each one has its own flavor!” says Vanessa Fracheboud, President of Mandy’s Salads. “South Shore feels like home, family-oriented and community-driven. Ottawa brings that mix of politics, students, and food lovers. Canary District is modern, vibrant, and built for connection, surrounded by parks, trails, and a health-focused community. Yonge & Eglinton is a dynamic mix of city buzz and neighborhood charm, packed with great food, shopping, and a strong sense of community.”

"Pii Nong’s new uptown flagship is a direct flight from YYZ to BKK—no passport required. It’s an all-things-Thai sensory overload complete with a store selling imported goods, a soon-to-open massage room upstairs and a raw bar that looks like it was airlifted straight from a Bangkok night market."

I be checking this place out since it's near where i live! I will provide an honest field report!

"Inspired by the area's convergence of cultures, food and people, Tha Phae Tavern is set to invigorate 221 Richmond Street West with vivacious energy along with modern Thai food and handcrafted cocktails. Though planning is still in progress, the team says chef Nuit's menu is inspired by classic Thai drinking snacks and small plates that combine Thai flavours with global influences. Tha Phae Tavern's private karaoke rooms, on-site photo booth and claw machine will apparently further capture the hubbub of Thailand's Tha Phae Gate."

it is replacing the former restaurant called "Selva" which had the jungle theme at 221 Richmond Street West

"Casa Morales’s roots are in the hallowed halls of Kensington Market’s Latin American food court, a launchpad for some of Toronto’s most beloved eateries. It was at 214 Augusta—once home to the Chilean hot dog spot Completo and the pupuseria Casiamento, both of which later became stand-alone restaurants—that cousins and co-owners Augustine Skrzypek Morales and Carlos Emilio Morales opened Gus Tacos back in 2019. The Canadian cousin of their original taco stand in León, Mexico, soon met with much fanfare and now has seven locations across the city."

Damn we are starting to see the gentification of Kensington Market where mexican food is going premium @AlbertC @Northern Light @GenerationLee

"Over a decade ago, Gotch Klangtongduang immigrated to Toronto for love. “I was working in Thailand as a designer for Nike, but then I met my husband and moved to Canada for him, so I had to start over,” she says. Klangtongduang had always helped her parents prepare the family’s meals but had never really cooked for herself. “When I got here, I realized if I wanted the food from back home, I would have to make it myself.”

I guess Thai food is going thru an explosion trend lately via Toronto Life articles and so many TikTok & Instagram Reels! Hopefully this isn't just a fad but permanent but do we really need that much "thai food" in this city? @AlbertC @Northern Light @GenerationLee

Not a bad idea to have thai food in every corner of toronto's neighbourhood!

I don't believe I've ever had Pork Liver..... I must say, I can't stand the beef variety, so I'm a bit skeptical on that.....

Where does one by pork blood in Toronto? I've never thought of blood as sweet, anyone whose ever sucked on a paper cut finger..... would think of human blood as slightly metallic/iron'ish.
Looking it up, pork blood is supposedly a bit milder than human blood.

Many of the better patés you can get at St. Lawrence Market or other good charcuterie places include pork liver.

Sanagan's will sell you pig blood and liver. I've gotten liver to make paté, but have never bought blood.

I love pretty much any larb. Pai has a nice one too. You can get it with pork, though I don't know if that includes liver. Khmer Thai used to have one on the menu that used raw meat, but I just checked their menu and it doesn't seem to be there any more.
