People are saying this spot can rival out "Sugo"! according to TikTok!

Menu is simple and has a homey touch to it!

"
Simon Vickerson honed his craft on the streets of Toronto, peddling pizza to partiers as they filtered out of bars and clubs. He’d get home from his shift at a restaurant nearby and immediately head out again to run what was then called Raff’s Pizza Stand, which he ran with Julien Bequet. They’d set up anywhere people wanted pizza.

“We just kind of said yes to everything. We did a wedding, a rave, a basketball competition. We sold pizzas outside a vintage store. Just tons of random opportunities,” Vickerson says. “But, most Saturday nights, when I finished by bartending shift around 3 a.m., I’d run to my place, where I had a full-size fridge at the foot of my bed just filled with dough. I’d take all that dough, put it in a wagon, and run down to College and Bathurst.”"

Piano Piano have announced a new (5th) location, this one at Bloor & Westmoreland Ave (one street west of Dovercourt) in what was previously Osteria Rialto, connected to Paradise Theatre. Opens Saturday Feb 8. I imagine this location will be great for them being 300m from Ossington Station, though who knows with people going out to eat less often

There were quite a few people in there when I walked by at about 4 today. I actually didn't know what it was, as I walked right under the marquee so didn't see the sign.

It's a beautiful space. Hopefully the name recognition of being part of a restaurant group helps them be sustainable here. Being attached to Paradise theatre should bring in some steadier flow of patrons. Although often the challenge is that these sections of Bloor aren't seen as a destination, and tend to be slower especially for (relatively) higher end retail as they don't typically draw in non-locals.

Well Bloorcourt neighbourhood particularly the Dufferin & Bloor Street - this area is considered up and coming!

It needs more good marketing and PR!

Perfect, logical choice for that space. I'm actually relieved.

Will just slot this here:

Hamilton's oldest pub and brewery, the George Hamilton which is located downtown in a 160 year old building, has closed down. Some commentary of them shutting down:

THE GEORGE HAMILTON RIP
Hi everyone. I'm sad to report that The George has closed its doors for the last time. It has been a very difficult few years to operate since the advent of COVID. Costs have risen signigicantly. It now costs 1.1 million a year to run the restaurant versus $800k before COVID. There have been no extra sales to cover this. When First Ontario Centre chased away The Bulldogs AHL team then closed for 2 years it has been further devastating.

I'm a bit surprised that Covid is still regularly being thrown around as a factor in closures. We're going on 3 years since the last lockdown...
