woah what with all the restaurant closure this month....shocking

Lots more will be closing in 2025. Soaring rents, higher food costs, higher wages, and declining sales because their customers can’t afford to dine out/splurge.

I'm glad i left the industry. I've noticed so many fine dining restaurants close during lunch these days. When i was working in high-end restaurants in the early to mid 00s. Lunch was just as good as a money maker as dinner for us servers. All the wealthy Bay Streeters and office crowd on expence accounts kept the money flowing. Those days are mostly gone.

The financial district restaurants still do a pretty great lunch business Tuesday-Thursday now, but Mondays are quiet and Fridays are completely dead. I wonder what's happened with rent in those places to reflect that the FD is now a 3 day a week economy instead of a 5 day one?

My business partner and I had many lunches at Canoe, Jump and the like back in the day. Now we each work at home permanently. Also I haven't had a meal indoors in five years and I'm not going to risk frying my brain or infecting my husband for a fancy meal.

Oh dammit! I loved that place, my friend lives around the corner, that was our go to spot, plus they had gluten free dishes on the menu, perfect for my friend who is GF.

I was actually surprised a few months back that it was still in business - cider was hot and trendy back in 2016-17, but in recent years it seems nobody cared anymore. Meh - this city/culture is so trend obsessed. Bunch of bandwagoners. There's no sustained interest in anything.

I'm surprised this place lasted so long. In 2016 you couldn't really get good cider, especially the basque stuff, and this place had a niche. But that niche is long gone.

I was actually surprised a few months back that it was still in business - cider was hot and trendy back in 2016-17, but in recent years it seems nobody cared anymore. Meh - this city/culture is so trend obsessed. Bunch of bandwagoners. There's no sustained interest in anything.

I went once. I ordered the "deviled egg" that was on the menu at the time and it came with only half an egg!

With the closing of Brickworks Ciderhouse and Cider House on Roncy in recent years and now Her Father's, are there even any cider-focused places left in Toronto?

I don’t think so, but the good craft beer places now always have a selection of good ciders. It’s pretty much obligatory.
