Again, this “fate” isn’t restricted to just those who are undocumented.
If you're in the US on a work or study Visa or a permanent resident with a Green Card I would also assume my status may be canceled and have a plan to exit. It's a big world out there, any one who has marketable skills should consider going home or elsewhere. And many smart people are now choosing to avoid the US entirely.

Agreed. I wonder how many will travel to the US for next years World Cup
The Club World Cup had some travellers but European fans were noticeably lighter than their South American counterparts. I know there were stories of the US turning away Portuguese fans. I'm sure there were others.
Perhaps FIFA will move some matches to Canada and Mexico?
Incredibly unlikely at this stage. What's set is what is set. Worst-case scenario FIFA will change the draw so that specific teams like Iran, among others, start their tournaments in Mexico or Canada instead. There's no avoiding that these teams will eventually have to play in the US, so I imagine FIFA will have to grease some wheels to ensure there's no issues for the teams. Fans will be a no-go.

By next year tourism will probably be back to normal levels. Boycotts don't seem to last very long. I was in Niagara Falls last week, the rainbow bridge was packed with Canadians going into the US. The American side seemed pretty quiet.

European tourists visiting the US in April were a bit higher than even in 2024.

I know even before Trump, Canadians like myself were canceling or cutting back their trips to the US because the exchange rate between the US and Canadian dollar is so negative for them they can’t afford or find it too expensive.

I was looking at hotels, in most major US cities are now up to 200 to 300 plus USD a night. That's over 300 to 400 Canadian a night for a three star hotel. No thanks.

Things won't return to normal until the fear of being prosecuted when crossing the border has gone away...

...as for the linked article date back in June 11 of this year, it is interesting that those are still visiting the US are those who have higher probability of not being targeted. You know, Caucasian Europeans. It doesn't really say anything about those Europeans from the same area who do not fit that bill.

So without scrutinizing those internet articles will lead one to think that Mamdani was doing "black face" back in his college days, in the example. Just saying.

Exactly. I'm an older white woman. I'm sure I'd be fine. But I don't want to go to a country that my POC friends are afraid to enter or live in for fear of being detained or worse, regardless of their status.

I own property in the US and live there for months at a time and have seen on local social media channels about ICE raids picking up local garden workers as they head out to work in the early morning. I know a lot of our community's workers by name or recognize them from seeing them regularly. They are very hard workers and keep our community beautiful. I have no idea of their status because it's none of my business, but many have worked there for years and are raising their children in the community. They are hired by a large and supposedly reputable firm. Many of them get promotions, moving up from entry level workers to supervising teams, liasing with management and so on. Now they don't know if they could be picked up on their way to work in the morning or if their kids could get picked up in school -- a friend who teaches school says they have been told not to interfere should ICE come into the classroom.

Sure, it's funny to show a cartoon with a colour chart, but this is reality and disgusting that people are being treated this way. Regardless of their status, they are entitled to due process. Athletes attending an event like the World Cup shouldn't be afraid that they will be denied entry or detained based on the colour of their skin. Everyday people shouldn't be afraid that the colour of their skin makes a difference. And yes, I'm not naive and know systemic racism and prejudices have existed all along, but it's so more blatant, and the situation is accelerating, and the repercussions are escalating. None of this is ok.

Trump's approval ratings continue to suffer.

That makes sense. Those aren’t Trump’s sh#t hole countries. For bonus points, if you’re an indigenous European you’ll pass the colour test at the border.
Depending what you mean by indigenous here. Sámi and Romani peoples would unlikely fit that bill either.

It might be argued that April was still a benefit-of-the-doubt, calm-before-the-storm moment. (Or "The Storm", if we're to go by the QAnon concept.)

There were also people who had pre booked trips months ago who took them because they were paid for.
That’s me. We fly to the US in a few days time for a trip we booked on, uhm….. Nov 3rd. Lol. I wouldn’t have predicted that Kamala would fumble the ball so badly.
