We may still, it’s early days. Joly seems to be improving in the role, IMO. We don’t see public calls for her ouster like in years past.
Joly has improved in recent times but with Carney's campaign pledge to release a new, full foreign policy (first since 2005) the foreign ministry file will likely require new leadership. Carney speaks often of executing with speed, and Global Affairs Canada under Joly has been anything but. Various Regional strategies took years to be released, confusing most observers.

If, as he says, Carney wants Canada to play a larger role on the international stage compared to Trudeau then we'll need to start doing a better job of communicating Canada's interests and priorities as opposed to just focusing on values.

And there are many new MPs that may have the chops.

The people we are turning to (our European allies) seem to really like Melanie Joly, however.

I don't think keeping her on as FM is contradictory to the new approach.

If there really is a desire to improve our international standing, whoever the Minister is will have to rebuild our professional diplomatic corps. It has been allowed to wither for a number of years. Trying to charm the world with a PM's personality only gets you so far.

He might even go outside his group of MPs for that role. He did offer Jean Charest a senior role when he won the leadership race but Charest said he would not accept unless the Liberals won the election.
It's allowed under the system but has its drawbacks. It telegraphs to pretty much everyone that your bench is weak, and the Opposition will constantly make a point of not being able to call the Minister to account in the House.

Gender parity is back….

Because it’s 2025?

I don't see this as all that problematic.

Its not as if there aren't a host of highly qualified female MPs to choose from.

Ideally, I don't think we should 'quota' things...........because most of us want to idealize a meritocracy and we also understand that slight variations in representation vs the general population are to be expected in any profession, politics included.

However, quotas of some form are often an interim measure to break down barriers.

In Canada, where only ~30% of MPs are female, a number well below the 36% average in Europe and 35% in the Americas........(50% of federal legislators in Mexico are women)..... we surely need to do better than we are now.

One way is to provide role models, to provide a number of women a plausible path to the Prime Ministership, a voice at cabinet, and one that can mentor younger MPs or potential candidates.

Ultimately quotas should generally go away, but we have to make some strides in the direction of equity before we get there.

There was word this evening that Chrystia Freeland would be excluded from Carney's cabinet…
Freeland stabbed the last PM in the back. I’m glad she did, Trudeau had to go and would not voluntarily, but she’s demonstrated to Carney that when the PM is on the ropes she’ll not back him and may publicly denounce him. No one wants to be surrounded by Yes Men, but given her recent history, I’d toss her from cabinet as well.

Now, there is a risk that Freeland resigns and forces a by-election, but there’s no risk to the LPC in the 416.
