Notable additions, Evan Solomon - Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation...
(Emphasis mine.)

I really cringe every time I hear that term. I pretty sure it's one of "I don't think it means what they think it means" deals...and they're creating an entire ministry portfolio for it. >.<

Soloman is tight with Carney, they've known each other a long time.

So it was a near certainty to me that he would be in........

But Dabrusin was a surprise.

I know people who have interacted with Dabrusin who speak highly of her. However, as @ShonTron noted, I'm not impressed by Solomon, whose nomination struck me as emblematic of the Laurentian, backroom-style politics rampant in the Liberal Party. In a riding that includes Moss Park, Regent Park and St. James Town, surely the Liberal Party could have nominated a local community leader rather than a parachute candidate?

A similar thing happened in the Liberal-safe Etobicoke North riding, home of Rexdale, where the Liberals nominated John Zerucelli, a long-time Liberal insider and GR head for Molson-Coors.

Don't disagree. This certainly seems like a favour for a friend; though in fairness to Solomon, he's clearly familiar w/the political scene in Ottawa and comfortable speaking to media /publicly.

But was he the best fit for the riding in question, I very much doubt it.

Does he deserve his spot in cabinet? Given some of the alternatives available, including Nate......that's s tough sell.

The last MP who actually represented Toronto Centre was Bill Graham. Every MP since has been a parachuted appointee:

Bob Rae
Bill Morneau
Marci Ien
Evan Solomon

Missing from your list, but can we consider my previous MP Freeland (2013-2015 under the old riding makeup) a parachute appointee? I am glad to see that Freeland remains in the wilderness of interprovincial trade and transport.

Ah yes, Bill Morneau and his "balance the budget by 2019 " schtick. I know, he's not at the top, but it was a BS commitment that he should have never signed off on. We would have been better prepared for Covid had we entered the pandemic with sound financials.

Sorry, I can't do that Evan...

Much to my surprise I see that Poilievre is not able to move on - he really is the most negative person who seems unable to see the positive in anything. Did he REALLY think that the new cabinet would have no former Trudeau ministers? "The people' voted for Carney (or against Poilievre) but he continues to be stuck in the past. I await him to start chanting "Ax the Tax" at any minute! What a useless twat!

Poilievre slams Carney’s cabinet picks as ‘more of the same’

Pierre Poilievre calls the return of 14 Trudeau-era ministers 'not a promising start' and highlights the key role Conservatives will play moving forward.

Carney to attend Pope Leo’s inaugural mass in Rome on Sunday

Prime Minister Mark Carney is heading to Rome on Friday to attend Pope Leo’s inaugural mass

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a news release Tuesday that Carney will be in Rome from May 16 to 19.

The ceremony, which marks the official start of a pope’s term, will take place on Sunday, May 18, at St. Peter’s Square.

The news release said it is a “longstanding tradition of the Catholic Church, and a defining moment in Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate.”

While in Rome, Carney will meet with other international leaders to discuss “deepening trade, commerce, and cultural ties,” the PMO said.

Former governor general David Johnston represented Canada at former pope Francis’ inauguration in 2013.

Funny thing..........the same news organization also quoted him being.............. errr, magnanimous is probably over-doing it.........somewhat more constructive....

Interesting both to see him essentially sabotage his own attempt to seem a bit more collegial; but also media exploit that immediately (somewhat understandable and in any event predictable).

If you want to convey a message that you can be a constructive player.........do that........and maybe leave the rest for another day when the government sticks its foot in it.

We haven't seen the mandate letters to know what the role will be but there is a need to develop policy and legislation surrounding AI as it matures. Areas such as privacy, jurisprudence and medicine are only a few.

I still find it hilarious we not only have a Minister of Artificial Intelligence but that the minister responsible is...checks notes....Evan Solomon.

...well, I suppose that would influence my jury to lean towards importance as opposed to nuisance.
