New Northlander video has dropped.

Also, I assume this is just for illustrative purposes or maybe to indicate a bus connection, but this map in the video shows a link to Cochrane.

Is the different class of seating (the single seats) a new thing? I don’t remember hearing about that.

The plan, last I heard is that it will go in to Timmins and up to Cochrane.

That is how the Via Siemens sets are laid out.

The car closest to the loco will be configured with 2 + 1 seating, just like the VIA sets. ONR used to offer a Business class on the Northlander, and presumably they will be offering something similar when it returns, although I don't know what they will call it.

shame that there isnt any long distance appropriate seating layouts available. though i doubt ON would want to invest in being the launch customer of such a configuration.

Yeah. I understand why they wouldn’t want to deal with bedrooms and berths, and reconfigure the interiors, but something like the “daynighter” seats with a deep recline and a leg rest (which VIA’s HEP-I coaches have) would be useful on an overnight run.

What was Business class like on the Northlander? I can’t seem to recall it from when I rode the train back in 2012.

Good question. It wasn't available, if I recall correctly, when I took it in the mid-2000s and again in 2012. You would probably have to go back to the pre-1990 era.

The video above calls it "Northlander +"

If I remember correctly, the differences between it and the regular service were pretty minimal - the same seats, but configured further apart and with tray tables and outlets. I seem to recall that there was a complimentary snack and beverage included as well.
