"I took a picture of the proposed schedule for the Northlander when I saw them down at the Cottage Life Show over the weekend. Unfortunately my pic was terrible. So I came up with this from what I could read of my pic. This is just a proposal and subject to change they said. They said they've been asking for input and from that feedback they came up with this."

Ideally you want to get in around 9 but you would be competing with GO traffic.

Two hours from Washago to Union is not bad. In rush hour it could be longer than that by car.

The other day I headed from Toronto to Barrie at 7 am and it was bumper to bumper southbound from Holland Landing all the way to the 401. No accidents. So that alone could be two hours.

That's the schedule posted in their 'Updated Business Case'. At that time, agreements with CN regarding track access (and I assume Mx) were still noted as TBD.

Timmins or Cochrane is interesting. Could sense be prevailing and a bus shuttle Timmins - Porcupine - Matheson on the table?

I have not heard any update on the 'how', but the official position is it will be "a rail to Cochrane" from Timmins. Seeing as the Venture sets are 'two ended', I am assuming it will drive in/drive out of Timmins to Porquis Junction. Whether that happens every time or year 'round remains to be seen. I haven't seen a firm timetable since the business case. It wouldn't make much sense to add more equipment and crew for such a short connection. All the facilities and staff for 'turn-around' service are already in Cochrane.

The wording of the whole thing strikes me as a little odd since, if true, it will really be a service from Toronto to Cochrane via Timmins.

my understanding is the train leaves Toronto, heads to Timmins, then heads to Cochrane, then heads to Timmins, then heads to Toronto. They will be maintained in the TMC.

Which sounds pretty much like what I just said. Turn-around servicing is different than maintenance and includes cleaning, vacuuming, topping-up of any on-board provisions, maybe fuel, and any other end-of-run type inspections (fluid levels, etc.).

Yeah,my thinking is in Cochrane they will swap crews, fuel and provision for the southbound trip.

There's an Instagram account that takes a lot of pictures of it but in their latest post I didn't see anything. Must be getting close.

I believe the last I heard was delivery in Feb 2026 to the VIA MMC. No clue if that has moved.
