Looks like demolition is forthcoming.
Will we see another mid rise?

Me too. We keep on tearing down older character buildings, of which we don't have that many left.Damn. I really like that building![]()
With that said, it was in pretty rough shape inside when I last was in there.Me too. We keep on tearing down older character buildings, of which we don't have that many left.
Not to get too picky, but I'd prefer the description "midrise MUDslide".^ It is obviously vintage, but that shouldn't be the saving grace. It is every bit as boring as the midrise landslide that is inundating the City.
There are midrises in the core, but they tend to look better than ours. And there are definitely more high-rises.Is Calgary's core also getting a slew/skew toward midrise (max six floors) mediocrity? I'm guessing not.
It is unique and not ugly, which is more than can be said for 90% of things around these days.Maybe it's not apparent because of the evident neglect, but what do people find special about this building?
It is good to hear there is a lot of interest. While probably not a huge money maker, it seems like a viable business and I feel a good location so it could likely continue to be that or better in the future. We were there yesterday and overheard one of the owners saying to someone that they've had "more than enough interest" from potential buyers since announcing the sale. Here's hoping they pick the right buyer
^ the price seems a bit low to me too, but most of what's in that building isn't their inventory, it's on consignment. A lot of the value is in the space they're in (that they don't own) and the branding/reputation of the place. Yes, it's a long running family business in the city, and I'm sure the owners have done alright, but I don't think this is a huge money maker venture. A majority of people who visit it are just there to look at the cool, old stuff. It's almost like a museum
Hmmm 112 avenue from 64 to 66 Street is right up there tooIs there a better block in town?
