Oh, the Mexican restaurant Juana Inés has soft opened at Manchester Square, and it is quite good. They're definitely taking full advantage of the patio friendly format of the space on the west corner of the square. They're offering a small portion of their menu at the moment, and their liquor license was a work in progress, but their food offerings were top notch.

Looks tasty but... those prices o_0

Never even heard of Canada's 100 Best. Next, please!
I am a bit skeptical of these sort of lists, they often seem focused mainly on certain large cities and tourist destinations, which to be fair do have a lot of nice restaurants, but I wonder if they even get to other places.

If they do, I get the feeling they only pick one city in the region to visit and we are often not it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll hold off on dining at Juana Inés until I can order a paloma with my tacos.

Not saying it's a perfect list, but they also factor in full dining experience. Something Edmonton is not that strong in

Or that we simply are not visited enough for a variety of reasons and have fallen off the radar?

Or we simply do not have a lobbyist in the back pocket of that particular website promoting YEG?

Maybe, but i'm of the opinion that this city's funk continues to expand and sure it ebbs and flows, but we need a course correction.

Or maybe we are just currently good, but nowhere near as great as some like to think we are?

Great food will take you so far, but it isnt the best food in Canada. Its the best restaurants in Canada.

I can think of places where I will pay less for tacos, but they'll generally be smaller and not quite as good. The other half and I are big fans of Carne Asada Taqueria on Jasper, and Acajutla when they have their patio open, and we've followed around a bunch of taco trucks, but this was definitely competitive in terms of bang for the buck, and they're also offering a nice sit-down experience.

I feel it is more that we are not as focused or interested in relentless self promotion as some other cities, plus we do not get as much business or other travel as the more major business or tourist centers in Canada.

Which is a serious issue and detriment to this place.

I dislike when these lists come out because Edmontonians try to find reasons why the lists arent to be taken serious or how great this place or that place is. When the reality is Edmonton restaurants overall are good, but not great consistently. The industry is still rebounding and has had a ton of obstacles the last few years. Sucks that instead of looking inward at what's lacking, we always dismiss these and say everythings fine

Kaffa for the first time this morning and wow, it's beautiful and most definitely on my regular stop-in list now.
