Stopped by Bar Oro for a cappuccino and a snack

Stumbled upon this place on the world wide web, McLeod building. Never even heard of it, wasn't this the old Eskimo slotback's place 20 years ago? Anyway, one of those places that won't last a year.

I see Lauren McD's place is "almost" ready to go as per her page. I'll send the ladies in there first, doesn't look like a place that "I" would be comfortable in....

I was at the downtown O'Byrne's a for a pint of Guinness and a bowl of beef stew. Despite the deluge of celebratory Oilers fans, the server was quite prompt and friendly to deal with, and the food was quite good. And they actually had stew, by golly!

I'll be back again, however there are still a few bugs and improvements they need to make:
- The men's washroom was out of paper towels and the garbage was overflowing, but that was likely due to the aforementioned Oilers fans.
- Get rid of the window coverings! It resembles an Irish-themed dungeon from the outside.
- An outdoor patio is sorely needed, as mentioned by @davcocom in the Photo Of The Day thread. However, the ICE District appears to have this strange aversion to patios.

I don’t think I have ever seen a single person in often and don’t know anyone who’s been. Months ago they started some side project on the west end of the space for a cocktail bar the seems to have completely stalled. At this point it seems this place must be a front for something because there can’t be any way they are making money.

That space is cursed, which actually doesn’t make any sense given the location.

Those windows decals are awful and need to have some pop out windows to bring the inside out... along with a patio.

The downtown O'Byrne's was admittedly getting a bit hot last night, so I hope they have plans in place for those hot days of summer.

Here's a problem with this place, let's count how many of these are from the YEG region, Yes I know it's a YYC based restaurant, just more reason to boycott it and to send it packing BACK to YYC.

4/16 beers from YEG = pathetic!!! Hopefully a quick shut down of this place will teach them something about "local."

Bent Stick - YEG
Brewsters - YYC
Common Crown - YYC
Fahr - YYC Area
Grizzly Paw - Canmore (HEAVY NO THANK YOU!)
Hard Knox - YYC Area
Manual Labour - Sherwood Park (Yay!)
Nicelife - BC
Odd Company - YEG (Yay!)
Ol"Beautiful - YYC
Parallel - BC
Phillips - BC
Russell - BC
The Establishment - YYC
Tool Shed - YYC
True North - BC

This spot seems to attract would be restauranteurs with little idea of what they're doing who can't seem to get their project bludgeoned into form, like the "Japanese" restaurant that started off with Japan Rail themes but abruptly rebooted after opening, possibly because JR aggressively protects their trademark.

I know a few people who frequent there. Reason they like to is because they have alot of beers to that you can't get elsewhere.
