Confirmed that it is Candid Coffee Roasters that took out Mandolin Books. Looks like they are getting closer to opening.
The new spot Nuestro that opened close by also serves Candid Coffee. Despite losing Mandolin which was very disappointing, it's nice to see two local coffee shops open (but I don't like their coffee unfortunately 😕)

Ya, it's nice. But agree, the coffee is not good at either..... Would have been much more excited for a Coffee Bureau or Columbian.

Nuestra's Bagels are amazing, if you win the lottery and they have some in stock.

A replacement for the Delux Burger Bar in Crestwood Centre

I had a chance to check out Kommune Snack Bar (in the old Ikki Izakaya space). Lovely space, great staff, and a really killer menu. The Smoked Meat Schnitzel is a must-try, as are the potato cake and the grasshopper pie! Official opening is this Friday. Great addition to the west end of Jasper Ave.
I also checked out Kommune and I also give it a thumbs up. Weekday business in particular has been very slow for them so far, but I hope things pick up.

Openings
  • Earth’s Refillery and café will open in Little Italy, a venture from the folks formerly behind Earth’s General Store. They are hoping to crowdsource $70,000 to help them purchase equipment and inventory.
  • It looks like Frida Urban Taqueria, which closed in January, has rebranded as Juana Ines, and will open at 12042 107 Avenue (the former Das Bretzel House in Manchester Square).
  • Aura Cocktail Bar is now open at 3759 Gateway Blvd.
  • Made by Marcus’s Mill Creek location is opening soon!
Closures
  • King of Tarts, which has most recently been selling their products at the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market and The Connected Kitchen Project, is closing. Their final day at the market will be April 26.

Looks so good!
Such a pity I can't make it.

I'm quite curious how the event works. I would expect it to be something like Taste of Edmonton where you pay for small items, but then I don't understand the 90$ ticket cost.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. "The admission price includes your food and beverage tasting tokens. Additional tokens are not available for sale; ample portions are served."

Pity it's on a Monday.....pity that it's sold out.....pity it wasn't this weekend...

General admission seems to still be available. I'm extremely tempted to drop 90$ just to try the Fu's Repair Shop and RGE RD samples.
I'm thinking it would be even smaller portions than Taste of Edmonton, kind of like "whatever fits onto a spoon," is what you're going to get. Then you have to make a McD's run afterwards cause you're starving....lol
