I still love that original proposal for FCC. If they had built that second tower, it would be a standout, not just for the height, but architecturally as a cool looking design.
I found another story about FCC being bought by Armco back in Nov. 2024. This quote gives me hope:
"Very proud of our newest acquisition," added George Armoyan in a comment on the post. "I can’t wait to start the new residential tower on the existing foundations and underground infrastructure.”

Sorry to clog up the Stampede Station thread with this tangent - feel free to move.

Honestly, for me a "high-end retail street" is way down in my list of things we are missing right now. I'd prefer something that us plebes can enjoy. Really digging the movie theatre idea, especially since we've lost the Eau Claire cinemas. Just generally, I'd like to see more amenities that make day-to-day living and working in and around the city centre easier.

It's also very hard to "create" a high end retail street, or any type of street. They have to develop organically because no developer can buy an entire street to redevelop the whole thing. We see 17th transform over time and extend with each new building proposed/developed. Whatever Truman is looking at is probably contained to one location.

I wonder if they're looking to diversify their business and will be part of city initiatives like GamePlan where they're the development partner on recreation centres to help improve cashflow and buttress against some of the challenges in the condo market.

Agreed - but a higher-end retail street (or few blocks) makes for a destination, and this has a knock-on effect with restaurants, cafes, other amenities, etc.

Not sure if anyone else listened in, but it was pretty informative. There was a Q&A session afterward, and overall, most people seemed satisfied with the development. A couple of people were concerned about their view (or lack thereof), but that was to be expected. Another person went on about it damaging to the environment and the migratory path of birds.

I believe they said the shorter tower would be constructed first. I was a little disappointed to hear that. Edit: Taller tower will go first!

shorter Tower Constructed first = 6-8 year gap between First tower Completed and 2nd Tower Commencing
Hopefully we Don't end up with a half realized project then a Mismatched weird looking 2nd tower

Or even worse a First Canadian Centre like outcome

Are these actual numbers? Or just hyperbole? C.A.D said believe they’re starting with shorter tower. Nothing about 6-8 years. As far as we know could be starting taller tower a month later

I think these are the numbers they want, will depend on whether they can sell units, inflation due to tariffs, interest rates and a million other things. I still think this entire development is pretty pie in the sky, especially for a developer that's never built a building even close to this scale.
