* worth noting here, you can only implement this at stations with ATC and where trains have same. So this can only be a Line 1 promise in the near term.

Yes but she can still earmark funding for them down the road.

Along with more special constables and mental health crisis teams.

This could be a win for Toronto. With all the issues on the TTC it would likely go a long way to winning votes.

Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie is pledging to install platform barriers at all Toronto subway stations, increase crisis intervention teams and hire more constables for transit services across the province.

Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie is pledging to install platform barriers at all Toronto subway stations, increase crisis intervention teams and hire more constables for transit services across the province.

Crombie did not release the cost of the proposed plan she would enact should she become premier, but says it will come during the campaign.
She says she wants to make public transit as safe and accessible as possible and plans to roll out transit plans in other cities soon.

The third day of the election campaign is underway with Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford making stops in Hamilton before an announcement in Niagara Falls, Ont.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles will make a stop in Windsor, Ont., and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner will be in Chesley, Ont.

because every voter rght now when they go to vote say "you know, my biggest Issue I want addressed from politics today is to make sure I can't fall onto the subway tracks!".

Not saying Platform doors are a bad idea or aren't worth funding - but it's really just not an issue that's going to shift voting patterns. Especially in a provincial election where the subway is only used by less than 20% of the electorate.

I tend to agree.

Good policy idea, but by itself, not a huge vote shifter.

That said.

Important to note that the commitment is wrapped as part of a broader safety push with Special Constables and Crisis Teams and will also fund those for Ottawa

Platform doors are definitely a niche issue that people here care about more than in the real world. I'm less excited by the idea of enhanced enforcement but would definitely be in favour of platform doors regardless. Stiles is in Windsor today talking about protecting the EV industry, so different strokes for different folks.

Crombie needs to butter up the 905 if she wants a chance to win.
The 905 has 3 subway stations. In the City of Vaughan, Pioneer Village, Highway 407, and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre stations. 4, if you include the Renforth Station (Line 5) in Mississauga.

I think the subway doors are a good policy that appeals to a bunch of Liberal/NDP swing voters around downtown Toronto, and a bunch of Liberal/PC swing voters from the surburban 416/905 ridings. There's a lot of concern about safety on the subway, and this addresses that directly.

I'm not sure it specifically moves any voters, but if they want to build a message that includes a focus on crime and public order, which sells really well in the suburbs, it's a good piece for that strategy.

Bonnie Crombie out with a major campaign plank.

Platform Edge Doors for everyone...... well, for every TTC Station.

Along with more special constables and mental health crisis teams.

Now that's a housing plan! [/s]

Gawd, we're so cooked.

This is the best the liberal party could come up with up? lol She said recently “I’m a different kind of Liberal,” Yep you are ! And you lost my vote.

And neutral people remember him shutting down the Science Centre.
I'm not sure that issue has much traction outside of the GTA. Early days, so far the candidates are tossing out local cookies; platform doors in Toronto, protecting EV plants in Windsor.

I'll hold my breath for province-wide issues, like healthcare.
