Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie, who lacks a seat, is planning to run in Mississauga East-Cooksville, as per Colin D'Mello of Global.
I can't help but ponder if Doug's made a mistake with calling an election more than a year early. Crombie had no seat and no voice in the legislature, now she's bound to get one. There's a good chance that the OLP seizes official opposition from the NDP, giving Crombie a strong pulpit to heckle and embarrass Ford for the next four years. It would serve Doug right if he ends up in a minority situation, though that's unlikely - a smaller majority is not.

My instincts tell me that we are looking at a minority government be it PC or OLP.

If that does happen, it may work to everyone's advantage as it would keep Dougie on his toes.

The election writ is expected to drop this afternoon.

I'm surprised to see the Ontario Liberals still haven't nominated candidates in Toronto-St. Paul's or Toronto Centre, two NDP-held ridings where the OLP should be competitive based on the 2022 margins.

In 2022, I expected MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam to win in a rout in Toronto Centre due to their name recognition, but she ended up winning by only 7%.

OFFICIAL

Ontario Election to be Held on February 27

From https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/1005670/ontario-election-to-be-held-on-february-27

Premier Doug Ford today confirmed that the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, has accepted the premier's advice to sign a proclamation dissolving the 43rd Parliament of the Province of Ontario, effective as of 4:00 p.m. today.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Election Act, the Lieutenant Governor also called for the issuance of writs for the general election to be issued January 29, 2025, and named February 27, 2025, as the date of Ontario's next general election.

Notably, this riding was won by PC Kaleed Rasheed in 2018 who in 2023 resigned from caucus over the zoning orders controversy. He was sitting as an independent and is not running for re-election. Riding was previously Liberal from 2007 to 2018.
Technically, 2003 (the riding did not exist under its present name, but all of its components--including what was then just plain Missisauga East--went McGuinty)

Yes, that is also my prediction as well, I think PC Minority most likely with OLP Minority a possibility. But regardless, I do think a minority government would be best since the Opposition is not fully sorted itselves out yet and Ford does deserve to be punished a bit for an unnecessary early election.

A minority government would not work to be an advantage for everyone.
Of course not, everyone? That’s impossible. But I’ll accept a minority govt of any sort as a knockdown to Doug.
Indeed but again faced with the alternative I would be ok with a minority PC government.
Me too. I'll give the reigns to Doug once more, but with limitations and only after a humbling.

Which party supports a PC minority?
In any event where the PCs can't form a majority the remaining parties should theoretically be able to, unless independent(s) hold the balance of power, but I have a feeling neither Jama nor Brady would be supporting a PC government.
