They have now changed the construction start to 2030. This city is a joke...the sidewalks have been overcrowded forever and I hate walking on Yonge because of it.

Also lol @ "2030 - Upcoming". This thing will forever be done TOmorrow.

This is insane. We're talking here about a 4-year delay to the *start* of construction atop an already-delayed project. The bloody Ontario Line might be open before this relatively small stretch of road is rebuilt.

The Mayor has been absolutely nowhere on public realm or pedestrian improvements; fixing this would be a good place to start.

You tell her! (seriously).

I'm not happy about this either. I'm currently trying to ascertain if I can move this along or not.

I'm going to say something extremely provocative, but the glacial pace at which we (don't) move things forward in the Anglosphere West would seriously appall East and Southeast Asians, and perhaps Gulf Arabs as well. They progress by decades in the span of a few years; we progress by a few years in the span of decades.

When was this Yonge Redesign thing first conceptualized, and then approved? Not saying that they're perfect, but if this was China or even "democratic" Taiwan or South Korea, a project of such (comparatively miniscule!) scale would long have been done by now.

This, the John Street "Revitalization", and the endless King Street Transit Corridor "Pilot" are shameful embarrassments.
At some point, our city (and country) stopped realizing that, uh...this isn't the postwar era anymore and our job is to move beyond the year 1989. How long have these "pilots" and "studies" on "proposals" to "maybe" revitalize a small section of a street or two been going on? Perhaps triple the time it's taken for China to build a cross-country spiderweb of high-speed rail?

Our culture has become so cynical and sclerotic in the aftermath of COVID that I'm not even confident that Toronto could do what we were able to do ourselves 10 or 15 years ago (e.g., Bloor Street/Mink Mile and Queen's Quay).

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not happy with the timing here, and I'm working to see if I can change it.

John Street is/was/has been ridiculous and there are plenty of other examples. Entirely fair to critique the City for some of the more absurd examples of needless delay.

For all of that, your comment both ignores the many projects that do move along in a reasonable time frame and the odd one that is incredibly expeditious.

Equally, you really overstate how fast many places build. You are seemingly unaware of the years or even decades that have gone into some of those rail networks.

Lets try to keep things in the realm of the reasonable. The delay here is not, the City must do better.

Toronto didn't do QQ - Waterfrontoronto did. Can you imagine if the city handled that project solo?

You just watch - if and when they get around to doing this, they will use the s**tiest materials on the s**tiest designs with the s**tiest level of attention to details.

It's pretty clear shame is in short supply, that's for sure. Is it about actual building, or is it about generating work for consultants?

The problem is that there really isn't any specific person that we could lay the blame at, is there?

The Gardiner re-do in the west end is being delivered a year ahead of schedule.

Many other projects are moving along.

Yes, the City is messing up.....when you spin it hyperbolically beyond where its really at, that's not constructive.

It wouldn't have started yet, for one.
