As Vaughan continues to mature, the benefits for a station at Jane & Major Mac are becoming increasingly stronger
While there are projects in the GTA that would yield a greater benefit, there is merit for an extension to Jane & Major Mac.
The projects which would be better are in municipalities which do not have the capital (monetary or political) or any of the interest which York does.

The extension makes sense. The case is frankly better than VMC is even today. I’d float the idea of making it part of a lighter Jane RT route instead of extending Line 1, however. I could even be convinced on Rutherford GO in that event.

Or.... YRT could upgrade the VIVA routes to LRT and add new routes where there is demand.

The decision would have nothing to do with YRT and everything to do with land owners and development. Even if it didn’t, YRT doesn’t have the resources or influence to posit such an alternative anyway.

More importantly though, the connectivity value is more regional- it’s to get these trip generators on the existing network. The employment area in between Wonderland and VMC/York U doesn’t need rail transit, those nodes do.

Metrolinx posted a YouTube video here of the Yonge North Subway Extension Train Storage Facility Virtual Open House. I think this is the first time we've seen a 3D image/site plan of the Train Storage Facility. Screenshot below from the video.

And a larger zoomed out video of the location from Google Maps.

The yard extends right up to 16th Avenue? Why not built a station there then?

then theyll have to extend the yard to Major Mack...
so theyll have to build a station there too!!

it will make for an easy station under the bridge however once they decide to do it. they can demo the honda dealership there to build a station that connects right to the intersection. though the NIMBYs will demand them to cut and cover under yonge st.

With proximity to the VIVA BRT and Hillcrest mall it would be a great addition and a no-brainer, wish it was closer to the intersection though, it would be a long walk to Hillcrest doors, unless Hillcrest develops their parking lot with condos and adds an entrance near the intersection

The owners of Hillcrest are well ahead of you. (this is at the northeast corner but still, change is coming...)

Cut and Cover?

Please, more like ultra-deep bore tunnel a la Royal Orchard. We've got to please the multi-millionaires because they dont want to feel the vibrations of trains.
