Any rapid transit expansion should include annexation by the City of Toronto.

I'd argue that Toronto is as big as it needs to be now. We already have an urban-suburban split within Toronto. Let's say Markham and Vaughan ("The City Above Toronto" ) joined, old City issues would (I believe) be largely ignored.

There is a point where extending too far becomes counter-productive and I'm not sure where that is but it definitely isn't Highway 7 (and it definitely isn't Steeles, which has no import beyond it being a line on a map, dictating where taxes go).

Agreed. The two ends of the line are too suburban and too far from each other to make sense. VMC is more than 8km from Yonge!

Even in the pre-TYSSE plan that connected the lines across Steeles, its a long way to go and I don't think it would have been worth it for many riders to go "up and over".

The point of closing the loop is not to be able to service more areas.

The point of closing the loop is to be ale to provide more service on the existing line. The main limiting factor to reducing the headways is the crossovers at the ends of the line. Running all service in a loop means that trains don't have to turn around and can run closer to each other.

All that said - there are several more cost-effective ways to reduce headways with the current system track configuration and geometry.

A distant relative owns the land under the LCBO north of Yonge and Cummer. This news is going to make him a very happy man as the north exit of this station should sit close to his property.

Next to Wonderland is the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and offices for Canada's Wonderland. Likely the office staff work in the off season. Putting in the Line 1 extension to Mayor MacKenzie Drive would mean most of the parking lots will be redeveloped.

As Vaughan continues to mature, the benefits for a station at Jane & Major Mac are becoming increasingly stronger. Yes, it would be at its ridership peak during the summer months, but Wonderland continues to shift closer to a year-round destination. Last year, the park was open between May and January.

Putting in the Line 1 extension to Mayor MacKenzie Drive would mean most of the parking lots will be redeveloped

Canada's Wonderland is also working on a plan to redevelop portions of its parking lot into a hotel/ resort area to accommodate guests from farther away. A subway extension supports the park's goals by increasing access, so parking can be converted. Connecting tourists who may be arriving via Union or Pearons to the subway network would be ideal. Outside of peak season, having these hotels built right beside a subway station is a major plus for ridership.

Major MacKenzie is an existing critical transit corridor for the region and is located more closely to existing residential areas in Vaughn compared to VMC and Hwy 407 (even a potential Vaughan Mills/Rutherford station). While there are projects in the GTA that would yield a greater benefit, there is merit for an extension to Jane & Major Mac.

There are no current plans in the works for any wonderland hotel, much less a resort, there was a previous plan which got cancelled years ago
