This would be excellent to come to fruition.
Well, one could certainly interpret the grandstand and stadium expansion to "enable expanded programming"...as potentially finding a way to make it a true stadium??No stadium space here, McMahon haters despair.
Love the amphitheatre! Hope that is close to top of the list.
Very curious what this "Stampede Gateway" development is (if it's anything more than just a concept yet), as well as the Big Four replacement that they labelled as "multi-purpose venue". For this new venue I really hope they don't cut corners and make it just a fancy modern box, the BMO Centre expansion across the street does set a pretty high standard. Interested to see how this plays out over the next handful of years.
Cautiously optimistic - I am actually kind of shocked they convinced the Stampede to get rid of so much asphalt. It does seem they really want to catch the Stampede up to other big cities with proper, high quality entertainment and exhibition district rather than a collection of random event builds in mostly empty parking lots. The Masterplan looks great so far, lots of interesting elements within those renders. It looks like an audience member would be able to see the skyline past the stage of the amphitheatre. The turf field is a nice addition of greenspace.
Absolutely love how the neglected east side of 17th Avenue, east of 4 Street, is finally reaching its potential after several long decades. In other development news, First on Seventeenth is launching their project website today. https://firstonseventeenth.com/
Does that mean a new flat event space that can host small concerts and events? Or does it mean a small arena type venue?"Multipurpose Venue: A new modernized multipurpose venue intended to replace The Big Four Building and enable programming flexibility to service the growing music and event needs on Stampede Park."
I would assume an open free-span building...large than the individual halls at the older BMO. If Calgary every bid again on olympics, could potentially be a temporary 6-7k venue for hockey or curling or something. It'll be interesting to see what they mean by a Multi-purpose venue. In the Stampede's news release they have it defined as:

Literally, literally the only thing now holding back east 17th is Alpha house. Wild to me that between east village and rivers, both civic priorities for development, BOTH contain a shelter (thus drugs, homeless, ect...). Make it make senseAbsolutely love how the neglected east side of 17th Avenue, east of 4 Street, is finally reaching its potential after several long decades.
I imagine something like this in Edmonton, perhaps a bit larger, in the 6000 range. It'll be interesting to see what they mean by a Multi-purpose venue. In the Stampede's news release they have it defined as:

This would be significantly less political than SP. The Stampede has every reason themselves, as does the city, to expand the East Grandstand for the Stampede ,and thus have a proper facility to host a June/August/September outdoor concert. If the Stampeders contribute XX which takes cares of the field level infrastructure...the stadium is literally already halfway there lol“We talked about the Stampeders, and I said, ‘The stadium has passed its shelf life.’ I don’t think that’s a surprise to anybody, and the reality is that we only play there 10 games a year, and so it has to be a stadium that is going to be, in my opinion, anyway, city-led,” he said.

Calgary Stampede master plan could spell the long, slow end for McMahon Stadium
One of the biggest moments of pause during the Calgary Stampede’s announcement of its new 20-year master plan was the mention of a potential new home for the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders. During the presentation of the ambitious park redevelopment, Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Cowley described a...livewirecalgary.com
