And Line 2 was down for signal issues for 2+ hours Broadview to Vic Park. Judging by the way my train is crawling, there are still some gremlins in the works

A somewhat less noticed report on today's TTC agenda was for contracts awarded with a value greater than 5M.

From the above, I have selected three that caught my attention:

Huh? Yes, the TTC owns the land on Kipling....but I don't recall there being any money in the budget to deliver this project in the next decade.......so why are we spending 20M on design here?

****

This next one seems more reasonable in price and will be of interest to many here:

This last one is a fine project.....but that price......how? Is Mx somehow grifting on this one?

Better to have a design in place for the Western Yard encase funds show up down the road from all levels than starting design work when funding announce It will save years getting the yard built once funding is found with construction starting sooner than later.

Perhaps, but my instincts lean differently.

My first reason is that the City has had a recent habit of designing then deferring and then having to redesign because the old design no longer reflects current needs, current materials or current codes or because as-built conditions have changed.

My second reason that the TTC has current, real, pressing needs that are unfunded. 20M will get you a Dundas Station with Platform Edge Doors or 4 or more stations adding washrooms, amongst other things.

I find it hard to justify at this point.

I also frankly don't see the need based on current subway expansion plans.

The only project that justifies another subway yard on Line 2 is a possible western extension which is not on the table currently.

For the buses, we already have surplus fleet with a bloated spare ratio; lots of buses will be freed up by ongoing subway/LRT expansion projects, and if we made proper use of TSP, turn restrictions and other measures along with taking bloat out of the schedules we could achieve a further 20% service increase with what we have.

All the TTC service changes for Sunday still aren't posted......

But i have most of it.........the format sucks so I'll just post one change for now.....because @PL1 would be interested. 51A/B will both run headway in the 24 m range.....but they are supposed to be inter-laced such that service from Donlands Stn to Eglinton should, in theory, improve to every 12' give or take.

That's definitely the one I need... Current 56 NB is 15 min service when I need it (there are a couple of extra runs for the high school crowd). Every 12 min is an improvement, though the forced transfer may eat into that

Reading from the only public source, the GTFS open data sucks as it's like reverse engineering the schedule. We can only resort to waiting for Steve Munro to blog about their internal memo as the TTC doesn't officially provide that info now in a easily accessible webpage. The service summary would be the best bet but that sometimes don't get published till weeks into the board period.

There are other sources......

Before the city reconstructed the Bloor/Dundas West and Kipling intersection. I heard TTC looked into adding a yard where the old abandoned movie theatre was. Didn’t the city said no to the TTC when they had other plans in place?

Did anyone else catch the privacy breach at the TTC this morning?

Their e-alerts glitched and doxxed hundreds, if not thousands of people.

There were several proposed projects on the old Westwood theatre site over the years. The current construction is probably the most rational use of that space (although I'm personally not thrilled with the design, but we shall see).

That was all before the old CPKC yard came on the market. Much better to have the subway yard tucked into an industrial area than on Bloor where mixed use/residential can be provided.
