Yesterday's budget update:

Noteworthy is the fact that the TTC appears to want to divest themselves of their artic buses, I assume the early ones from 2013-2014.

Seems unfortunate.
Meanwhile the MTA NYCTA who are still using Articulated buses would probably be laughing at the TTC. Imagine if NYC didn’t had Artics for 10 years, although they did buy the NFI D60HFs which did performed better I think for NYC

Transit violence rising across Canada — in some cities by nearly 300%

Exclusive data shows crime rates still well above pre-pandemic level
Very disappointing to hear this stark contradiction to an earlier post on here that mentioned that crime is declining compared to 2023.

A continuing pet peeve of mine are the fully able-bodied people who walk from the back of the bus to exit out the front door of the bus. Ignoring the centre doors entirely.
And yet I've had operators bitching at me more than once, because I want to use the slower back door. So yeah, I'm more likely to use the front door now, unless it's a busy stop.

Very disappointing to hear this stark contradiction to an earlier post on here that mentioned that crime is declining compared to 2023.
The "exclusive" data is the same Stats Canada data that's been available to everyone for years. As the Toronto data is sourced from TPS then that's been available since much earlier this year.

But wait ... crime IS down. What is @gabe referring to? The headline at https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/250722/dq250722a-eng.htm?indid=4751-2&indgeo=0 is that the crime severity index fell 4.1% since 2023. The police-reported crime rate fell 3. 6%. The violent crime severity index fell 1%. The non-violent crime severity index fell 5.7%. And even the youth crime rate fell by 4.2% Digging deeper - Ontario is down. What's up? Fraud ... I don't think fraud is injuriing transit workers. Hate crime is up.

Okay - that's national. What about Toronto? Very down in 2025 from 2024 if you an believe BlogTO with homicides down 54% - https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/250722/dq250722a-eng.htm?indid=4751-2&indgeo=0

Did you read the article? The graphs clearly show a sharp decline after 2023. But I don’t blame you, they knew what they were doing with this headline.

Apparently there's an emergency subway closure due to the discovery of asbestos debris.

Line 1 Yonge-University: No service between Sheppard-Yonge and Eglinton stations while we clean debris at track level. Shuttle buses are running between Sheppard-Yonge and Eglinton.
Line 1 Yonge-University: The planned subway closure scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, November 26, between Osgoode and College stations, has been cancelled. See other service alerts

Shuttle buses have been running for over an hour now. That's some significant debris. .

Another thing is that, you don’t see Fare enforcement officers on Barrie Transit/Simcoe Linx and Oakville Transit. Neither of them don’t offer All Door boarding and lastly TTC doesn’t offer any all door boarding on buses
You don't need fare enforcement officers in places that small. If you misbehave, the driver will just tell your mom.

Apparently the asbestos issue was identified earlier in the day.

ATU raised hell and demanded action be taken in the morning but nothing happened until the evening.

The thinking is that if this isn't deemed safe by the early morning we will have issues for the start of service

I thought they removed all of it in the early 2000's? They did all those weekend closures to remove it.
So did a piece break off the wall and fall onto the tracks?
