Bombardier is capable of making a high floor or partially high floor LRV. They have built some for customers in the US. I thought the push for 100% low floor cars was lead by ACAT.
That’s true - Minneapolis was 70% LF. That was a Swift model.

The first part of the TTC's 2026 elicited strong and clearly negative feedback in regards to the Yorkville/Rosedale changes. They are gone.

On balance, I agree this was the correct call. The proposals, as structured, created more problems than they solved.

TTC invites public feedback on 2026 Annual Network Plan

Aug. 13, 2025

The TTC is inviting members of the public to share feedback on its 2026 Annual Network Plan, which outlines proposed routing and service changes for the coming year.

The 2026 plan places strong emphasis on enhancing service for three priority groups: women, shift workers, and lower-income customers. By focusing on equity and convenience, the TTC is working to ensure that transit better serves the diverse needs of Toronto’s communities.

“Transit is about access to jobs, education, and opportunity,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “The TTC’s Annual Network Plan is an opportunity to further build a system that reflects the needs of our city’s diverse communities. I encourage everyone to take part in shaping the future of transit in Toronto.”

“We’re committed to building a transit system that works for everyone,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “This consultation process allows us to hear directly from riders and ensure that our network reflects their priorities, especially those who rely on transit most.”

“We’re listening to our customers and using their feedback to guide meaningful improvements,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “Our goal is to deliver a world-class transit system that is safe, reliable, and accessible to all.”

From August 13 to 24, the TTC is seeking feedback on two key areas:

• Express Bus Network Review
• Proposed construction-related service diversions

Customers can share their input by completing an online survey or attending one of several in-person events:

• Aug 14 – Kipling Station (7:30–9:30 a.m.)
• Aug 18 – Kennedy Station (7:30–9:30 a.m.)
• Aug 19 – Don Mills Station (4:00–6:00 p.m.)
• Aug 20 – Yonge & College (Stop ID #848, 4:00–6:00 p.m.)

This round of consultations follows an initial round held in July. The 2026 Annual Network Plan is shaped by feedback from TTC customers, employees, and community members and aims to improve connectivity and accessibility across the transit network.

The Toronto Zoo has got their SRT car:
Cool. Meanwhile, 5707 hasn't been seen at its usual location for over a week 😞 Hopefully it's just being used for a film shoot and will be back eventually.

TTC Subway Car Contract Goes to Alstom

Despite the premise of an open, competitive bid among potential carbuilders for new subway trains, various politicians have openly argued that the work should go to the historical provider, the Alstom (formerly Bombardier) plant in Thunder Bay.
On August 15, all three funding governments, Canada, Ontario and Toronto announced that a sole-source contract will be awarded to Alstom Transport Canada. This is intended to support Canadian jobs and an existing manufacturing facility. All bidders have been notified that the former bid process has been cancelled.

Seems pragmatic enough. With the increasing stress to buy Canadian, and the merger of Alston and Bombardier, we all know they'd have won. And perhaps with a higher bid than desired.

I get the feeling a few people on here won’t be happy, but given all that’s going on, I’m glad they will be made here. Other countries like France and the US prioritize building in their own country.

A rather busy, relatively narrow, spot during PM rush-hour.

It's interesting you say that as I've always wondered about that space.
The curb lane on College, and that whole block of College between bay and Yonge has unusually wide lines.
I've never figured out why, but I guess it is historical to get people on and off streetcars from when the area was a huge destination, back when College Park was the big Eaton's store and Maple Leaf Gardens was in its prime; a near daily destination for possibly tens of thousands of people before the subway was built.
I'm guessing there used to be a streetcar boarding island there eastbound? Anyone know?

Wheel-Trans service will remain accessible in all areas where local traffic is permitted.

The TTC will be testing and commissioning the newly installed streetcar tracks over the next few weeks and will provide an update on the resumption of streetcar service at a later date.

Full details of the service adjustments are available at ttc.ca/KingChurch. Customers are also encouraged to follow @TTCNotices on X or sign up for eAlerts.

Hopefully this repair work at King & Church will actually hold up. You know, longer than a few years.

I have no idea why the city just didnt just deal with the utility issues and fully replace all the watermains, instead of relining them to extend their service life. Now if there happens to be a major issue, we'll be right back at square one and we'll have to deal with the mess again.

Saving this below for future reference in case the city wants to scrub this information from their website:
