That's exactly it - if they hadn't explicitly called attention to it, I doubt anyone would have even noticed. They orchestrated their own PR crisis. And all for... what? Who was asking for the uniform update? How does this improve the transit system in any way?

Regardless of one's tolerance for immature jokes, you either have to be oblivious or 300 years old not to notice the implication, and easy material for the inevitable smear campaign when these upstanding citizens next overstep their boundaries. Having an intern get defensive about social media doesn't look great in my book. But, then, such a refusal to accept the egg on one's face is pretty emblematic of the institutional inertia of the TTC.
I feel like the majority of the PR for city departments is PRETENDING they're doing something, hence the anger when people point out it backfired.

I haven't seen any in person yet, or even photos of the new uniform, my sole source of info was the press release. But every fare inspector I've encountered has been wearing one of these two shirts... if there was a grey one out there I've never seen it.

I can't really see the shirts in that photo, just the vest and jacket there. It was baking the other day, so they weren't wearing anything that heavy.

I'd assume they go through a fair number of shirts in a year ...

It still said Fare Inspector in big letters. The POO label was similar in location and relatively similar font size to the TPS name badges.

Next time a POO POPs me I'll try and ask if I can take a photo.

The biggest question that should be asked is whether new title is what really mattered - or whether this exercise is a do-nothing checkbox response to the AG report.

Now if they want something to chew on - it is how this fare inspection arrangement slow down alighting and causing further delays for the passengers - especialy when there is bunching.

If you are going in this direction you should also ask why charge fares at all as doing this causes 'bunching' at fare gates and fare machines.

Not quite - fare gates bunching doesn't cause vehicle(s) filled with passengers to get stuck and unable to dismembark, whereas bunching at fare machines can be mitigated (Presto autoload, etc). The issue in this particular instance doesn't negate the need for fare inspection - only to highlight the inadequacy of the current arrangements.

It seems that 12-year old kids are offended by the TTC's asinine comments about 12-year old kids.

I'm amazed that the TTC hasn't even deleted that prejudiced tweet, let alone apologized.

"Poo-crew" - I'll have to remember that!

The media office claims that the tweet on X is making fun of adults who treat something as serious as fare evasion with the same reaction as snickering at a rude word like a child 😂 😂

Perhaps their media office should be more concerned about how a poorly implemented name change will increase the efficacy of fare enforcement instead.

There is nothing wrong with adults having the same "immature" sense of humor (I know I do) 😆

They claim that they have chosen to put a rude word front and centre?

I thought we were laughing at TTC choosing to highlight something I've never seen any other ministry/agency highlight - not at the word itself.

I saw the POOs both last night and this morning, both times inside subway stations. Maybe they are serious about having a higher profile throughout the system, which I do think would help immensely.
