That's is one hell of a detour. Why not go east to York and Adelaide? Is it because they had to shut off the power at Queen/Spadina too?

To get to McCaul, the 504 would already have had to pass through Spadina, assuming the description given is in order of streets utilized. It doesn't actually say where the 504 returns to King.

They are likely self Insured. The only thing that would hurt them is loosing their license to operate In the city.
I was once at the collision reporting center and a tow truck driver asked the officer if he can move the vehicle by interrupting him and cutting in line.

The officer asked him to bring all of his insurance and registration and suspended him on the spot. A few days later I saw the same driver in a truck from another company doing a towing job.

So basically there are no consequences. Even if you are suspended you can go work at another company tomorrow.

The guy who did this may have his license suspended but could get a job at another company next week.

How does your post relate to the quote of my post?

This is right on.

Sadly, don't see just punishing the drivers as something that will solve any of this. As noted above the Skyway guy got jail time, presumably he isn't employable in the industry, and none of this is enough of a deterrent.

It's time we recognized that it's 2024 and that somebody can make a computer that will either immobile or speed limit trucks when their bins/forks/protrusions are raised. Having an alarm isn't enough, and they get tampered with and we get situations like this. The regulator (or the insurance industry) needs to push trucking towards solving this issue once and for all.

Yes, punishing the drivers won't fix the problem. GFL will just replace the driver with another poorly paid and trained driver. GFL is a large American/candian profits over people waste disposal company. They are like the Amazon of garbage truck industry. Government should be handing huge hefty fines when crap like this happens. The founder is a billionaire, who low balls all his contracts, put's his competition like small local independent companies out of business.

The way I am reading that is, North of Dufferin, and the east on Queen. I don't understand the diversion up McCaul to Dundas... Why not go east along Queen to Church and then south back to King? Westbound cars could stay on King to York and then run north to Queen.

Queen is closed east of Bay for the Ontario Line construction.

Oh yea I forgot, my apologies. Still on the topic of were the 504 rejoins King Street, even on Dundas I would assume it would have to be south on Church Street. It's either that or Parliament.

They were probably meaning to respond to my post where I mentioned insurance. I can assure bordercollie that GFL has plenty of insurance on those trucks.

He was almost certainly drunk to have done this.

Maybe they can't use the new tracks on York/Adelaide/Richmond because it would cause huge congestion at the turn points? Whenever the 501 and 504 have to use the same intersection to turn, it's chaos because of the number of cars running.

If a computer can prevent a TR from driving with an open door, I see no reason why it can't prevent a truck driving with a raised bed either.

Well they are supposed to drive with the forks up, but they are supposed to put the bin down first.

So there could be some chip in the bin preventing the truck from moving with the bin in the air. But how often does that happen?

^Hope that's the case.
We have seen construction projects started and cancelled with billions of dollars wasted only to build it again 30 years later. If they built it in 1990 it would have cost a fraction of the price.
But you can definitely kiss the operational funding commitment goodbye if PP gets elected.

That makes sense. I work near the Human Society and there are frequently backups when cars are turning onto King Street.

Specific to the current situation, I don't think the York/Richmond/Adelaide tracks were designed to handle two routes on a high frequency. They probably cannot handle it in the same way there is congestion at Subway terminals.
