If you arrive at Paris Nord, Euston or any other self respecting big city train station there is an orderly taxi rank ….and most European stations have also adapted to Uber, Lyft etc. Toronto Union has always been a disgrace…and it is time something is done about it. Just my opinion.

If we do get high speed rail a one way conversion of Front, or a repurposing of station street seems in order to produce a better flow for kiss-and-ride & taxi rank

Back when the UP Express was being designed there was a plan to build a taxi pick up-drop off area on a part of Front St west of York St:

10 years ago today was the final day of operation for the old Bay Concourse at Union Station.

Unions transformation is best shown in this walkthrough filmed on the final day, every space seen in this video changed significantly or doesn’t exist anymore:

Sorry for the upcoming flood of pictures, I took after photos of various spaces that were shown in the walkthrough video. I hope you all find this as interesting as I do:

Oh, the memories! What a dreadful area it was. We may complain about some aspects of the current Union Station (and it is not perfect) but this reminds us how much better it is now. Thanks.

I like the old one better...

...

...it smelled like Cinnabun.

Just kidding, I love the transformation. It's so much better organized and conducive to a large number of people flowing through. The one caveat (besides the lack of Cinnabun smell) is the Via Rail concourse which is just so terribly dysfunctional, not to mention ugly.

It was delayed by the flooding, no firm date.
Dear City of Toronto, please rewrite our contract as you cannot keep a billion dollar shopping centre that's also the country's busiest transit hub from flooding because incompetence.

^...when folks are still getting dragged into the tracks by commuter trains I think it's safe to say that The City and Metrolinx weren't thinking a lot of things through when tending this. And to put it mildly.
