Now that the election is over I’m ready to continue mapping out Union! I’ve looked everywhere I can but I haven’t been able to find blueprints of the:

York West Teamway
SFC/Delta Hotel PATH levels

If anyone knows where I could find these please let me know!
Couple basic maps here: https://southcore.ca/directory

Can’t say these are to scale but looks about right from my experience.

I was told a few weeks ago that 'something is happening' - source usually very reliable but we will see (or not).
What about the unsightly temporary construction walls along the north-side of the hall, where the ticket booths used to be? Which I'd think are much more significant and noticeable than the lighting, that I don't think the average person would ever notice!

Today
West end of Front St.
Scope of work?

The temporary walls will, one day, be removed to reveal a new restaurant or ??? The lighting is old and ghastly.

Lighting seems fine to me. I've really never noticed anything, and I'd think that if we asked 100 people who use the station, 90+ wouldn't have noticed.

That doesn't mean it should be improved, but it's not what people notice - or wonder why the construction is still ongoing.

Now the dim lighting making many subway platforms look dingy (why they upgraded some and not others I don't know) - that I notice. But even at night, standing in the Great Hall for an extended period just watching (I was waiting for someone), the lighting never registered. But I'll try and look up next time.

You're the only one. LOL

The lighting is high pressure sodium. Not nice outside, absurd indoors. It doesn't look vaguely historical in any sense and casts an unpleasant glow over the entire hall.

It is absolutely high priority for replacement.

I 100% disagree. It should be replaced - but it's not a priority. And based on the decades we've been talking about this - the City of Toronto agrees.

I don't see constant (or any, ever) media attention to this. What people notice is that snow isn't cleared, garbage isn't removed, and LRT lines open 5-years late.

You can start a poll and see what UT has to say.

Elsewise, you're welcome to disagree, but I'm no less right.

That's a silly statement and beneath you as an argument. Using that argument the City is opposed to WELRT since we started discussing that before Union Station lighting....

It doesn't work. The City has been in a financial straight-jacket, compounded by poor management, in some areas, and in the case of Union Station a contractor who went bankrupt in the middle of the job.

The project ran over budget, this particular item was pushed out.

Oh like a bunch of transit and supertall geeks are the typical "100 people who use the station".

It's not like the lighting is harsh. Dim in places - sure. The harshness is in the bright LED signage.

That's a silly statement and beneath you as an argument.
Please be polite. And also - if the city DOES think this is a priority but done nothing for 20 years - then that implies epic incompetence at the city.

You might think the City of Toronto is that incompetent, but I don't. It's simply not a big issue to them. Or to me. Or to the typical Union Station user.

Do you know what's a big issue for me - that it's been almost 2 weeks since the last snow storm and we are STILL waiting for a sidewalk plow. Or I've phoned the city EIGHT times in the last EIGHT months about someone dumping trees and construction waste in the laneway near me - making it dangerous to those using it - and they close every request a day or two later with a response that isn't true. Service has gone WAY downhill at the city in the last few years. It used to be they got a pick-up out and a crew, and the waste was gone within days!

And then there's the two weeks it took last time for them to remove a dead raccoon in the middle of a well-used sidewalk.

Which I think is lovely. Add two more at each end to deal with the dark areas at night. But surely this, of all rooms, should not have modern lighting.

Here's a shot that highlights the shadowed area late at night, 2 or 3 months ago. (excuse the poorly composed photo - I must have taken this by accident while shooting some family).
