Interesting change of use.
I wonder if that's going to become a temporary parking venue for deliveries etc., where "temporary" stretches into months or years.

I'd rather it be in the tent than a surface parking lot, and I'm no fan of that tent.

Omg, THIS! It’s like when I complained to Pam McConnell’s office about the space next to the Parliament St Data Centre that was supposed to be park.

They told me it had been temporarily leased to a dealership for parking in order to raise money for the Parliament square library.

Well, Pam’s been dead 8yrs, we’re NOT getting a library there, it’s now the site of the Ontario Line, the whole land swap deal has been negated and it’s still car storage for a dealership which moved a kilometre or two east.

So I hope that tent has another 10-12yrs in it.

On another note, maybe I missed it- but the posters talk about a grand opening celebration at 10am.

Is the actual market still running from 5am on? I’m not showing up for sheet cake and speeches, I want my broccoli before the crack of dawn

I wouldn't bet on it:

I saw holes flapping in the wind during a recent storm. I would be surprised if it lasts another winter. As much as I prefer the tent to a parking lot, I hope both are gone soon.

The Market is opening at 5am in new buidling. Olivia is saying a few words at 10.30 and there is an opening party early in May (last I heard)

I'd love for the street between St. Lawrence Market and the tent to be incorporated into the re-development of the tent space. Right now the south side of the market is for deliveries, and is both unpleasant visually and for pedestrians (there's no sidewalk, delivery trucks are often jutting out into the street). Remove the road, enclose as much of the space as needed to create an area (garage) for deliveries, and expand the St. Lawrence Market patio over the top of the old street and across to the new library/building. A combination of St. Lawrence Market and a landmark library, combined with a revitalized outdoor seating area, would be a great civic landmark.

The site of the tent will definitely not be a park but the idea of linking the Library to the Market across The Esplanade was discussed but now that the tent site is NOT going to be a Library but will (apparently) be housing this idea is off the table.
