I think that's more than a rumor: it's obvious. The T1 international zone is a madhouse in the evening. Not just insufficient gates, but the gate areas themselves are far too small to accommodate multiple 300-400 passenger aircraft loading up at once.

100%. For a relatively new terminal, it seems way too overcrowded. I realize it's not brand new, but the layout or something is just bad.
 
So time to expand quickly . How can they grow if there’s no room left. Yul is packed too . There’s a disconnect between AC and the airports it seems
 
My spouse had a conference in Naples last month, and so of course I went along as well. Booking AC, the way there was Toronto-Munich-Naples with a Lufthansa City connection. On the way back was Naples-YUL-YYZ. That was a very full flight.

In the mid afternoon on a Sunday, YUL was rammed with flights arriving from Europe and the US, with a 45 minute wait to get through customs and immigration. Thankfully, there was a separate CBSA line and area for Canadian connections which only had a few minutes’ delay. It’s been a long time since going through YUL, so that was a very welcome surprise.

That terminal is not as new as you think. It opened 21 years ago. Time to build out a new pier.
