I got a copy of the DRP info, not much new in it and certainly no timeline.

Here are the background notes:

The following slide on 'connectivity' is interesting. I had missed the fact that there are plans (aspirations??) for a community centre!

Here's a piece of media about the park going in west of Cherry and Commissioners St. At about 10:19 in the video is when it gets introduced.
Also touched on is the Hovercraft between Toronto and Niagara, and The Bentway.
I watched this and was amazed they’re still showing the models of that park west of Cherry. It still seems too extravagant for our budgets, but hope it happens.

The rest of the segment was dreck. Paikin challenged the Waterfront guy on Sidewalk, but let the hovercraft lady do an infomercial without mentioning the failures of the Rochester ferry.

Does anyone else find the curbs (bike lanes AND sidewalks) to have sunken? I get freaked out riding here but n approach, because each curb sinks into a deep rut.

I haven't noticed that. I cycle and run by every week or so on Commissioners to Cherry to Parliament from Carlaw

Can you please take some.photos next time?

LOL at the person thinking that right now is the time you're going to get tourists flocking to a new link between Canada and the US. I love hovercrafts as much as the next guy, but they might want to put this on the shelf until Trump is gone.

It's kind of funny that the producers think "let's have a serious and in-depth discussion about Toronto's waterfront" and she comes to mind.

Trump will be gone in 2028. Getting all the shore-side installations and contracts organised and the hovercraft bought will probably be done at about the same time. If it ever happens I doubt it will be significantly before 2028.

I think the hovercraft link planned is to NOTL, not the US of A's. I feel like there is a point to be made about exciting attractions. I don't know if a hovercraft would be considered a global attraction, but personally I like the idea, and I would take it if reasonably priced.

Also it tracks to me that this would encourage waterfront development. Hypothetically, If I were to purchase a condo near the hovercraft location, and then have a nice country home in NOTL or near, and could take the boat across instead of driving through 2-3 hours of traffic each way, I would be pretty happy with that set up as an alternative.

Not saying it happens, but I see some benefits and find the idea attractive.

Of all the pertinent things to discuss about the waterfront- affordability always tops the list, are we worried about over densification, should we be building more office spaces, is there enough green space, why aren’t we winterizing bathrooms, where’s the eastern transit link, are the buildings too bland and unimaginative, are we building functional neighbourhoods or gifting developers cash cows, are municipal parks depts funded well enough to maintain these new green spaces, what’s the point of creating ecologically sound marsh lands and returning wildlife if we look to build huge condos full of dogs, how about that whole smokestack issue, or flight paths, should we kill billy bishop for our fixed link-

Nah. Hovercrafts. Infomercial level journalism on hovercrafts.

NOTL is 20k people. A single ward in Toronto is 150k. And unless i’m mistaken, this lady was talking about it as a service for NOTL to visit the city.

20k people. This was not a serious segment. This made BlogTo look like Cronkite

If there is a financially feasible case to be made, then they can attempt to make it. NOTL is 20k, sure, but the region is 300-400k. I am sure we can figure out some last mile solutions.

Anyway, to each their own. I certainly agree that the other topics you mention are more important. The two things can both exist at the same time; that all of the city's focus be on those clearly vital issues for the longevity of our waterfront, while this private org does its hovercraft idea...maybe. A bit of levity and talk about a hovercraft is not the end of the world. If it brings some excitement and is a private endeavor, so be it. Also Steve is the best, so no ripping on Steve! ;)

I just get mad that I defend TVO and public broadcasting, and they put this on. Like it just reads to me as someone involved in the project is connected enough to talk to the right people and not only get air time but entirely positive coverage without any pushback. Not a good look
