Not to get too far off topic but you can't really do the CNE without a functional food building.

I would suspect that some vendors (Maggie's and Primo for example) have long term leases there. Opening before and after events would mean staffing all the booths which may or may not be practical.

Would I like to see it operating for large events like the Indy or the World Cup? Yes.

Does any one person have deep enough pockets to pay the operating costs per year to do so? Likely not.

Anyway.. back on topic!
They should operate the Food Building like an indoor "tailgate party". Maybe upgrade it to include second floor sit-down restaurants. People walking to and from (or during) the games or events between BMO Field (and other venues) and Exhibition Station would been drawn to the vendors there.

How many even know that the Queen Elizabeth Theatre operates outside of CNE days?. See https://www.queenelizabeththeatre.ca/

What's the purpose of the smaller building to the north connected by the covered bridge?
There's no station entrance on the south side of the street (orange circle below)
because the platform and tracks are too close to the roadway to allow for a ticket lobby area at grade.
So the only station entrance is from the north side via the overpass.
A lot of passengers will probably be confused by that configuration (at first).

Welp, @innsertnamehere has jinxed us now!! We can expect the resigned station any day now. Main selling features will be:
  • Fresh air and lots of natural light due to removal of roof
  • Removal of bridge over the new street to encourage pedestrian activity at ground level
  • 50 shades of grey everywhere coz of clean look
  • Reduce scope of station building to save cost! Somehow cost will increase tho. Don't ask me how!
/s

It's scary how likely this change is tho!
...don't forget the Walmart entrance and build on the signature side for that "minimalist" look. >.<

I actually do think they are planning on having a secondary ancillary entrance on the south side of "Liberty New Street", with stairs and elevators leading up to the 2nd floor "unpaid zone".
In the render (the orange circle you highlighted), you can see that there's space between the big concrete columns that go slightly inward into the building instead of just a flat wall, indicating an entrance of sorts. Although I guess some of the other renders do have more of a glass wall in place of the exposed columns... perhaps those are doors? It's a bit hard to say lol.

Yeah, I think you're right.
It's not signed with the 'T' in the renderings but people will always find a shortcut if there is one.
I wonder if it's for use of the concourse to cross the tracks after hours, after the Ontario Line closes?
They may close the entrance pavilion but leave this open.

What surprises me the most is that Metrolinx seems to be actually building that station.. it hasn't been value-engineered a la East Harbour.
I think the difference is that Exhibition Station is technically part of the OL procurement process (even the GO parts), but East Harbour Station falls under GO Expansion/SmartTrack (lol). Notably East Harbour was the only station that didn't release renderings when all the other OL station renderings came out. So it seems like they're different work packages, which is why the approaches to them (and also budgets apparently) have been so different.

These perspectives from the 2022 docs provide the best glimpse but yes it may have been modified since then.

If this is closed overnight, it is more likely they will redirect people to the tunnel.

Some progression shots of the new crane on tracks being installed at Exhibition. The newest crane has a shorter tower and boom.

Wait, this is happening already? I didn't realize they were going to start building this station before any tunnelling is done and 6 years before the line is supposed to open. Exhibition will be for GO trains too right? So is the plan that this opens before the Ontario Line?

Yes, I believe that they will be building the new GO platform between the inner two tracks, which will be opened before the Ontario Line is complete (someone said for FIFA 2026, but I'm skeptical about that), but whether the new overhead concourse will be opened before... I'm not sure
