What's the purpose of the smaller building to the north connected by the covered bridge? Not sure if these renderings have been shared here before View attachment 669459View attachment 669460View attachment 669461View attachment 669463View attachment 669462View attachment 669464View attachment 669465View attachment 669466View attachment 669467View attachment 669468View attachment 669469View attachment 669470View attachment 669471
That's the ontario lineWhat's the purpose of the smaller building to the north connected by the covered bridge?
No, the Ontario Line platforms are incorporated into the main station. The bridge and north building will allow climate-controlled access to the TOD that will eventually subsume the building, while also allowing people to walk to the north side of the street without having to cross the road at ground level, adding convenience and safety. (After games, the number of people streaming across the street could be problematic for traffic.)That's the ontario line
Probably not very likelyBut will the Food Building be accessible during non-CNE days, for food and drinks?

No.
Walter, as I said before it's not simply unlocking the door and sitting down.
There's operating costs like water, hydro, cleaning etc which for a property that size isn't minimal.
They would be better served renting space at the National Trade Center or Automotive Building which are operational year round for events. They already have staff and the operating costs are sunk given that they open 365 days a year.
Will the 29/929 Dufferin bus route connect to Exhibition Station once construction is finished?
I never understood the appeal of the Food Building. Maybe the entrance and signage have some architectural value but the building itself is a warehouse shack. CNE food trucks are almost always better than the mostly standard fast food fare you can get year-round anywhere else, except that here's its marked up +50%.
I'd rather it become a public square or park that's activated before/after games at BMO Field which makes even more sense with Exhibition Station right across.

What surprises me the most is that Metrolinx seems to be actually building that station.. it hasn't been value-engineered a la East Harbour.
They should operate the Food Building like an indoor "tailgate party". Maybe upgrade it to include second floor sit-down restaurants. People walking to and from (or during) the games or events between BMO Field (and other venues) and Exhibition Station would been drawn to the vendors there. Not to get too far off topic but you can't really do the CNE without a functional food building.
I would suspect that some vendors (Maggie's and Primo for example) have long term leases there. Opening before and after events would mean staffing all the booths which may or may not be practical.
Would I like to see it operating for large events like the Indy or the World Cup? Yes.
Does any one person have deep enough pockets to pay the operating costs per year to do so? Likely not.
Anyway.. back on topic!
